Super RR Bill and Ray!! All the gadgets, great bikes, great scenery and the time to enjoy and share. When I grow up, I mean retire, I want to be just like you guys! Oh, not setting my goals too high huh!

Have a great time!

John

I'm guessing that the gangrenous broken leg is only a "flesh wound", thus the trip was only mildly affected by it.

Me, I'm bringing the spousal unit to try and slip across the border undefended...

The Kanuckistani's have returned to their logistical base.

Tire has been replaced on the Super 10, the C

Kanuck's have been fed and watered and have been put to bed, or at least dropped off at the barn.

There is a video of Billy attempting to breed his bike which I'm sure will make an appearance at a later date, JSNS!

I have a sense this thread is about to go off the rails.

The Return to Spearfish

Today was a history lesson for the Great White North Liberation Army as we took time from our travels to spend some time at the Little Big Horn National Monument....

IMG_3513-L.jpg

We took roughly two hours wandering the grounds and soaking up the history that surrounded us....

IMG_3518-L.jpg

IMG_3519-L.jpg

IMG_3522-L.jpg

While there we saw a group of horses that seemed to be watching over a horse that appeared to have passed....

IMG_3512-L.jpg

IMG_3527-L.jpg

It was all very sobering and sad experience.

Unfortunately we needed to get moving. Also moving was the expansive coal trains working their way west....

IMG_3508-L.jpg

Just before crossing back into Wyoming we stopped in at the Stoneville Saloon to say hi to the Tiger Lady....

IMG_3528-L.jpg

Unfortunately it was Monday....

IMG_3530-L.jpg

The bike on the right looked faster....

IMG_3532-L.jpg

Ray was too scared to go inside because he thought the Tiger Lady might ask him for the back alimony checks.

We had plotted to just follow 212 all the way to 85 but I made a command decision and turned on the road that leads to Hulett which is a much more interesting road.

We stopped in at the cafe to have a coffee and say hi to Jeff's girlfriend....

IMG_3536-L.jpg

Before returning to Spearfish we had to make one last stop at Aladdin to see if the town was still up for sale....

IMG_3542-L.jpg

With that we rolled into Spearfish where John met us at the motel. As John stated earlier we took care of Jeff's tire issues and got ourselves fed and bedded down for the night.

Tomorrow is the last day on the bikes as we head into the Black Hills.

- to be continued -

Excellent RR Willie, I think ya mighta killed Ray however!, and for Topless Tuesday?...I would of stayed another day. 'NS!

Mucho Thankies for the ride-along, great scenery and of course food ****! :)

Does that sign say something about "Bling"? Were you in a place that considers denim jackets "Bling"?

$1.5 mil seems a little steep. But then, I have no bling, nor do I have a denim jacket.

Billy Fitz says he wants a new bike. Inspired by the western wildlife we've seen apparently Bill is in rut ...

No way it's done yet...we still have the ride drive retreat back to the frozen north!

It is not a retreat, it is a strategic withdrawal. Jeff posted up a video that Ray thought that I was attempting to breed with my FJR....

I will have Ray know that I have sired many a baby Yamaha....

The Black Hills

The last day on the bikes for this trip. We had captured BigJohnSD the previous evening and met up with John at the coffee shop in Spearfish early the next morning to go for a loop through the Black Hills. John had made arrangements to retain the services of his friend for Ray given Ray's disregard for the law of the land.

IMG_3544-L.jpg

We first headed south into Spearfish Canyon reaching Hwy 16 and then turning north to come back up to Sturgis. We then took the next road to the east and headed south for some very nice sweepers through another canyon down towards Nemo.

Norris Point Rd was a little torn up and there was some gravel so Jeff finally had a chance to do some dual sporting on the Super 10. We stopped in Oil City for some coffee....

Jeff wanted some pie but we couldn't find any that came wrapped with bacon so Jeff took a pass on the pie....

IMG_3546-L.jpg

Ray then tried to chase me down the Old Oil City Rd as we crossed the same railway track 18 times between Oil City and Keystone. We had to stop once as the tourist steam engine blocked our progress at one point. Ray has the video.

We then took a slight detour to get a nice view of Mt. Rushmore....

IMG_3547-L.jpg

Rushmore1-L.jpg

IMG_3551-L.jpg

We then backtracked slightly and took Hwy 16A otherwise known as the Iron Mountain Rd. We leapfrogged each other as we stopped for photos along the way. I have video to post later.

From there we then took a run up the Needles Hwy. Some tour bus also found its way onto the Needle and almost stuck the bus in the Needles Eye much to the entertainment of the crowd at was standing around....

IMG_3556-L.jpg

IMG_3557-L.jpg

I actually walked into the tunnel and helped direct the driver and after about 10 minutes the driver managed to drive the 100 feet through the tunnel without scraping off too much paint. When the driver finally made it through he waved me over and asked if this was the way to Mt Rushmore. I told him that it was A way to Mt Rushmore but probably not the best way given what the driver was driving.

Having finished the Needles Hwy John lead us over to Custer where we took a lunch break at the Black Hills Burger & Buns Company...

IMG_3562-L.jpg

I had a truly great Texan burger....

IMG_3565-L.jpg

We are not sure if John was conducting a symphony, checking his phone for messages or just eating cheese curds at this point....

IMG_3564-L.jpg

After dinner we headed west and then turned north on Hwy 85 back up to Spearfish Canyon finishing up a nice 400 km ride (225 miles) for the day.....

Tuesday%20-%20July%205-L.png

Overall we rode 9220 km (roughly 5500 miles) on our little sortie.....

total%20trip-L.png

The bikes are now loaded back onto the mother ship as we return for more Tim Horton's coffee. I have almost forgotten how to say "eh" and may have problems communicating with my fellow Canadians on our return.

We will be posting up some videos later but this fairly sums up the blow by blow report. Hope you enjoyed it.

Later.

Cool video a page back of your Rattlesnake Mtn run. That looks like great fun. The few times I've been up there, I've never done that route. Gonna have to look that one up next time.

Uh, but ya better tighten up that front left rotor. According to your video it keeps stopping and reversing direction!!

A couple of Jeff's photos from yesterday in the Black Hills.
At the bottom end of the Iron Mountain Road we came across this guy standing by the road....

Jeff also got a photo of me coming through one of the tunnels on the same road....

A shot from the back side of the bus inching its way through the Needle's Eye....

Ray got all testy when he was asked if he was trying to hatch that rock...

Thanks to BigJohnSD who took a day off his busy schedule to lead us on a guided tour of the Black Hills.

Your Spot Track map... Are you sure that's not my track trying to get to Calabogie a few years ago?

It does have that Bungie look to it doesn't it. Our navigator Ray kept leaving his turn signal on for miles on end so we kept making turns that we weren't supposed to make. In between that and constantly parking the bike with the key still on Jeff & I were starting to think our dad was going a little senile.

I already know what the reply will be....

Awesome RR and adventure you three. Great seeing you in Red Lodge and later providing some in route transport maintenance.
