MSC,
we've experienced very similar things at our fj rallies. guys show up (usually younger, usually less experienced) on faster, lighter, newer bikes, and bite it. now that i think about it, almost every one has been an r1. i don't know about your experiences, but in ours i'm certain it's the "i have a faster bike, i can ride faster than these 13-20 year old dinosaur bikes) and they wad 'em up easily. we're not bike exclusive, despite the fj rally name, but we're getting to the point that we're gonna ban r1's. not really, but it's gotta stop. anyway, i think so much of it is just simply young/dumb/testosterone coming out. the irony so often that the guys on the gsx-r's, r1's, etc. are so much less experienced than the guys on the fjr's, st11's, etc.
Actually Dean...it's because you let Klavdy come to your rides. Admit it.

MSC...we have a particular road here in Perth, which not only has claimed many an unsuspecting biker, but also the life of a National Motor Sport hero (Peter Brock). Peter would be similar to a Dale Earnhardt Snr as far as respect and ability and success is concerned.

My point is, I have ridden this road (O'briens) about 6 times now, at least 3 of them as a shadow to a newly licensed rider. On each occasion I have reminded them (and myself) of the perils of this road. I have indicated the dangerous spots, and that it takes a long time to achieve success with this road. It is not a road to be ridden at 10/10th's if you have any doubt about your ability. In saying that I have seen and heard many an experienced rider come to grief on this road.

The bottom line is, that you can preach and teach as much as you like. Ultimately, you are not inside their helmet, and they make their own decisions. If they choose to emulate Rossi and Edwards etc, then I would be backing off, and not being involved in their little dream.

As you have clearly stated, that the antics of some, almost caused an accident to you. I would have departed that ride with a 'thanks, but no thanks' if it was me.

Great responses from all. :clapping:

hah, yeah, klavdy. he's not contributing to the youth crashing syndrome at our rallies; he's contributing to the "piss eastern u.s. drivers off by lane splitting or just merely going around all car traffic at stoplights" syndrome. ( :
