Small wonder HuddieBear refused to ride with the PNW Crew anymore....
Obviously those Pacific North Bed Wetters had their way with HuddieBear and just abandoned the poor thing in Carver's room. You people should b e ashamed of yourselves...
We had an early breakfast and bid ado to Carver as he was heading south and I was heading north. I stopped at the hydro dam just north of town to check the spillway and the difference between just Friday and now was amazing ....
The bike needed gas and I needed to pee by the time I reached New Denver. The washroom at the gas station was in use and there was a restaurant across the road so I decided to go over, use the facilities and have a coffee to warm up a bit. I had not gassed the bike yet and when I got back to the bike I found the key had been left on for about an hour and the battery was dead. I have an AE so you can't bump it. I would never be dumb enough to leave the key in the bike turned on and just walk away so I'm blaming HuddieBear. I caught him later trying the same stunt...
Luckily the gas station attendant had a set of jumper cables and it wasn't long before the AE was alive again. The hour of hard running over to the Needles ferry was enough to charge the battery back up. While in the restaurant I found out about the closing of the Trans-Canada between Salmon Arm and Revelstoke and Hwy 97A getting wiped out with all the flooding in the area. There were reports of up to a 4 hour wait at the ferry. Fortunately it wasn't that bad and I only had a 30 minute wait to get on...
The ride on the ferry was very relaxing...
On the down side it started to rain as I waited for the ferry......... a LOT. My rain gear kept me dry except for my gloves that got soaked but fortunately the AE had heated grips so I stayed comfortable. I stopped in Vernon at my favorite location for coffee & chili...
I then took a short loop to the south to see a good friend that is now managing a ranch near Carrs Landing. His apartment is above the work 'shed' and is 2500 ft2. The main house is currently under construction and is over 24,000 ft2. John took me up to the top of the ridge in the side byh side quad and the views of the Okanagan Valley were amazing. Unfortunately I had left the camera behind so you only have my word on it.
John also clued me in on Salmon Arm Road that is a very, very fun road that got me back up to the Trans-Canada Highway just west of Salmon Arm surprising enough. From there is was a short run over to Randy's house where he was busy getting dinner ready...
Life is good but my rear tire is dead. I will have to stop in Kamloops for a tire since the run across Hwy 6 removed the last of the tread I had. I'm not willing to run that tire any further than there...
The photo really does not show just how bad tthis tire is worn. I think the tire had too much hot running across the flatlands and now the tar & chip of the last few days finished it off. I as basically on a slick in the rain today and it was 'interesting'. I was able to put my dirt bike skills to good use today.
Here is where I had to go to get around all the rock & mud slides and the floods...
