Arrest BikerGeek if You Ever See Him with Tools

Andy was standing around and feeling guilty as usual for not actually doing anything but stealing beer, offered to help. I know, I of all people should have known better but it was only two bolts and it just had to be righty-tighty. No way to screw that up.
I did that? Really?? Man oh man I really do not remember doing that. I remember you putting your forks back on the bike... Was I drinking??

You DID see / hear about my battery cable "incident," right?

Truly sorry aboot that, Bill. I really am.

Terrific ride you're having. Can't wait for more!

Small wonder HuddieBear refused to ride with the PNW Crew anymore....

IMG0760-L.jpg

Obviously those Pacific North Bed Wetters had their way with HuddieBear and just abandoned the poor thing in Carver's room. You people should b e ashamed of yourselves...

IMG0761-L.jpg

We had an early breakfast and bid ado to Carver as he was heading south and I was heading north. I stopped at the hydro dam just north of town to check the spillway and the difference between just Friday and now was amazing ....

DSC0005-L.jpg

The bike needed gas and I needed to pee by the time I reached New Denver. The washroom at the gas station was in use and there was a restaurant across the road so I decided to go over, use the facilities and have a coffee to warm up a bit. I had not gassed the bike yet and when I got back to the bike I found the key had been left on for about an hour and the battery was dead. I have an AE so you can't bump it. I would never be dumb enough to leave the key in the bike turned on and just walk away so I'm blaming HuddieBear. I caught him later trying the same stunt...

DSC0017-L.jpg

Luckily the gas station attendant had a set of jumper cables and it wasn't long before the AE was alive again. The hour of hard running over to the Needles ferry was enough to charge the battery back up. While in the restaurant I found out about the closing of the Trans-Canada between Salmon Arm and Revelstoke and Hwy 97A getting wiped out with all the flooding in the area. There were reports of up to a 4 hour wait at the ferry. Fortunately it wasn't that bad and I only had a 30 minute wait to get on...

DSC0011-L.jpg

The ride on the ferry was very relaxing...

DSC0014-L.jpg

On the down side it started to rain as I waited for the ferry......... a LOT. My rain gear kept me dry except for my gloves that got soaked but fortunately the AE had heated grips so I stayed comfortable. I stopped in Vernon at my favorite location for coffee & chili...

IMG0763-L.jpg

I then took a short loop to the south to see a good friend that is now managing a ranch near Carrs Landing. His apartment is above the work 'shed' and is 2500 ft2. The main house is currently under construction and is over 24,000 ft2. John took me up to the top of the ridge in the side byh side quad and the views of the Okanagan Valley were amazing. Unfortunately I had left the camera behind so you only have my word on it.

John also clued me in on Salmon Arm Road that is a very, very fun road that got me back up to the Trans-Canada Highway just west of Salmon Arm surprising enough. From there is was a short run over to Randy's house where he was busy getting dinner ready...

IMG0765-L.jpg

Life is good but my rear tire is dead. I will have to stop in Kamloops for a tire since the run across Hwy 6 removed the last of the tread I had. I'm not willing to run that tire any further than there...

tire1-L.jpg

The photo really does not show just how bad tthis tire is worn. I think the tire had too much hot running across the flatlands and now the tar & chip of the last few days finished it off. I as basically on a slick in the rain today and it was 'interesting'. I was able to put my dirt bike skills to good use today.

Here is where I had to go to get around all the rock & mud slides and the floods...

Every time the PNW Crew show up at an event they bring that stupid Seattle weather with them. Check out the flood report from the Vancouver Sun...

Flood Report

Many thanks to MajBach (Randy) for feeding me and letting me stay over at his dad's home near Salmon Arm. The silly boy even gave me the key to the liquor cabinet...

DSC0002-L.jpg

Before breakfast I went out on the deck and took some early morning photos of the views...

DSC0004-L.jpg

DSC0005-001-L.jpg

There was some evidence of the bear that Randy had to chase off the deck a while back...

DSC0003-L.jpg

Well I'm off to Kamloops in search of a rear tire. Wish me luck.

You're welcome anytime, Bill.

(Thanks for not posting any pictures of me and HuddieBear :drag: ).

Good luck on the tire hunt Bill... if you can't find one, let me know, I'll overnight you one from the stash of PR2s in my garage.

Griff
Thanks for the offer but I was able to source a tire at Shultz Motorsports in Kamloops and it is being installed as we speak. The last 100 km into Kamloops did in the PR3...

DSC0006-001-L.jpg

In an hour or so I'll be heading up the Yellowhead Hwy (#5) for the true Great White North with HuddieBear.

HuddieBear would also like to thank MajBach for his hospitality and will be holding onto that photo for future blackmail opportunities. Frankly I've seen those perverts from SW-FOG do a lot worse.

So how many klicks did you get out of the PR3?

I put a set on mine a month or so ago and love them. They just look like they'd cup at the drop of a hat.
I don't remember exactly the mileage I had when I put them on but I'm guessing I had somewhere around 12000 km. You have to remember I did a lot of slabbing at the start of this trip (401 / 402 to the border and then slab all the way to Kansas City). I also think the rear tire got overheated in the Badlands since it was after that day that the handling was not as crisp as usual. Next time I trailering out to the Wet Coast.

New Rubber & Dry Roads - It's All Good

Many thanks to Shultz Motorsports in Kamloops to fitting in my FJR into their schedule and getting the new PR2 mounted up and having me on my way in less than 2 hours from when I arrived. After a quick stop for lunch and gas for the bike it was time to head north on the Yellowhead Hwy and into the wilds of British Columbia. After scrubbing in the new PR2 for 100 km it looked like this...

DSC0009-L.jpg

Somewhat of an improvement over my previous posted tire photo.

We were following the North Thompson River Valley and at first you really could n ot see the mountains due to the rolling hills on the valley floor...

DSC0010-L.jpg

As we went a little further north the valley started to close in and we were getting much better views of the mountains...

DSC0012-L.jpg

Three quarters of the way up Hwy 5 we come to the town of Blue River, home for the base operations of the Mike Wiegele Heli Skiing Tours...

DSC0015-L.jpg

During the summer they will fly your mountain bike up to the top and you can ride down or they do high alpine hiking tours...

DSC0018-L.jpg

HuddieBear was much impressed with the area and wanted a keepsake photo...

DSC0020-L.jpg

At Valecourt we reached the top of the Yellowhead and turned west towards Prince George. Just before reaching McBride there was a chainsaw craver displaying some of his work in front of his house...

I don't know how much he sells since there doesn,t seem to be much traffic on Hwy 16...

DSC0028-L.jpg

I pulled off the road in McBride for the night and got the last room available. The motels are full of CN Rail workers since there was a derailment 16 km outside of town. Tomorrow it is off to Hazelton to visit with an old dirt bike buddy that moved out of the Toronto Rat Race and headed for the hills.

Lucky that! What did Shultz charge ya for the rubber?

Yamafitter, Huddie Bear was unmolested whe he was placed in Carver's custody, jess sayin.

Looking forward to seeing where he ends up. To think, if not for NAFO, he's be wasting away in some thrift shop.

FREEDOM!!!

As you said it was $300 for the tire and $80 shop time including HST. Nobody said it was going to be cheap but the tow bill back from Hyder would cost more than the bike is worth. I was hoping to get far enough on the tire that I could have made it back near Seattle, pre-order a tire and make arrangements from the Assistance List to change it but it was not to be. There was a contact on the list in Vernon but unfortunately I wasn't able to connect. I'm happy enough that I don't have to worry about the rear tire now for the rest of the trip.

Well I guess its marginally better than going through customs with a stuffed sheep wearing a thong and a glitter wig in your saddlebags.

I guess.
