Also, is it water resistant? Having seen the series in a Circuit City....I doubtful it is.

The perfect GPS? That is wholly subjective and in the eyes of the beholder.

If you like it, save your pennies and go for it. But after already reading about it, primarily in THIS THREAD, and also in THIS OTHER THREAD, I guess I don't get it. Me personally, I don't find being able to get movie times all that valuable. Like, who the **** cares. And as for gas prices, I only find that marginally helpful. Generally, what's a few cents in the great scheme of things? And I already have traffic and weather on my 2730 via XM radio, so unless those services are upgraded or better through MSN, what's the big deal?

Scratching my head here. More is not necessarily better.

Oh yeah? Well, I'll go you one better... How 'bout a radar detector with built-in GPS, hmmmmmm? Escort 9500i. Due to bow at CES. :bleh:

;)

isn't that like the tail saying, "look we just added a dog"?

adding a $1000 dollar thing to a $250 thing?

whatever...

Now, if it only had the Veg-O-Matic and Pocket Fisherman, I'd be in!

I imagine as time goes on, there will be new models of GPS devices offering all sorts of extras and other "services"..this one looks like just another step in that direction. Although the screen size is actractive , I myself could not wait and bought a Zumo 550. I have been very very very happy with it so far. The 680 does have a built in FM transmitter, but I just picked up one of these:

on sale for $37 and now can listen to my MP3's when I use the Zumo in my car.

The ongoing updates and technology in GPS devices is great, but you'll die of old age if you are waiting for the latest and greatest.

I would have to say as long as we are still in fantasy land, that the perfect GPS would be comparable to a HAL-9000...voice commmads , heads up displays, artifical intellegence system that can and will answer ANY question the rider has..thus being completely hands free. Totaly intergrated with your bike giving you tire pressure , oil temp, surface coeffiants of the road , LEO locations , and the ability to TiVo your favorite programs if your running late.

Yes all this will be available someday, but I ain't waiting.

WOW....all i really expected anyone to say was "cool"
You'd rather have a $1000 piece of soggy toast because we blew sunshine up your butt?

Sarcasm aside, seriously look to see if the unit is IPX7 rated. That's submerged in water 3 feet for 30 minutes. Many of the Garmin line are IPX7 rated. I can't find anything that says this one is or isn't....which is not encouraging IMO.

Or, if it doesn't rain wherever you ride in Texas, feel free to ignore this as N/A.

it is def not waterproof...but that's ok, neither is my radar detector.

.....O.....K.

In that case, it's a very cool GPS. If I had the money I'd have one in my car actually. I'd leave the water-resistant GPS and covered V1 on my bike.

Is it A2DP (stereo) Bluetooth?

If not, it still gets a "piece of crap" vote from me. Nothing personal, just can't believe anyone would manufacture a mono electronics device and have the balls to price it at $1,000.

:angry2:

ronco

Really though, the gas price thing doesn't do me much good. I had a mechanic tell me that Chevron with Techron should be my first choice anytime I'm feeding gas through a fuel injector. Maybe he was part of the nasty big marketing arm of the gas company, but I was stupid enough to believe him. Will that thing tell me where the Chevrons are?
