A low-mileage version of the same year as the old bike? Perfect choice. :)

Bye GS. It was nice to try 'ya out. ;)

Copngrats Skooter, very nice find indeedy. Now go and rinse that kool aid out!! On second thought, check out the tires as those are past their best before date. If you see any checks or cracks, buy some new shoes!!

My bike used to look just like that! Well, except for the rotor bolt color. Mines is blue!

Mine too. Well, at least until I started hangin with this bunch of fools traipsing all over North America. Now it looks like a go'er not show'er.

<sigh> haven't seen my scoot since the end of October. It's got a new Russell seat, a full Ohlins suspension, had the rear linkage rebuilt/inspected/loobed and a valve check. I've got some Symtec grip heaters to install along with some new grips, oh, and an Iron Butt plate frame in the spring. Should be good to go for another 100k!

I'll be lucky to do half the mileage I did last summer, this summer. I start a new job on Tuesday :/ sure puts a crimp on enjoying life. So all trips for this summer will be onhold unless I can wangle some time off and do some hard miles during them.'

I thought the 05 I bought in December with 6744 miles was rare. Once thing is for certain, you will have over 10K on it in no time. :clapping:

If I'm ever looking for a new ride, I'll have to figure in the cost of a finders fee for you Greg. My God, that Skooter bike is pretty as an 18-year-old virgin walking down the Las Vegas Strip in a little black dress on a Saturday night! Gorgeous!

Don't want to put a damper on the love-fest, but that GS is a pretty tall bike. I think Skooter was just afraid of falling from that height ;)

Welcome back Skooter. Nice find.
Brother airboss hit the nail squarely on the head! Also, the color of his R1200GS clashed with his favorite strapless evening gown, high heels and purse! Es Verdad ese!
And...those of us who've read his many posts KNOW his propensity fro allowing his bikes to assume their natural, unbalanced resting position! :D

Much like an unnamed owner from the Sacramento area.......

He just cicn't want to face the inevitable replacement costs of gouged and scratched BMW heads..... :dntknw:

:yahoo: Greg, seriously great find and purchase. Enjoy moving all the farkles (Matt has written that book)! :yahoo:

So let me introduce to you FJR#3, a 2004 FJR1300 w/abs:

Man, I'm feeling your joy so much it makes me wish I had an FJR. But then I remember--Wait a minute! I do have one. It's in the garage. I know because I spotted it the other day while heading past it to the cage to drive to the train station to get to work.

Today is sunny and clear after a week of rain, sometimes in torrents, and a forecast for more wetness. I think I'll go for a little spin today to see if I remember how to ride without training wheels.

Thanks for the post.

I was SO jealous for about 2 seconds....then I walked out to my driveway and saw this:

I feel MUCH better now!

Congratulations on the awesome find, Greg.

(I'm still a little jealous...I want another 04!)

Well, I think the forum family has issued a collective sigh of relief - while not listed in pixels, there was certainly a shadow of doubt about the forum and it's health....one of the admins has a BMW? :(

The tension caused by this situation was palpable and onerous......I, for one, am glad that the issue has resolved. Now the universe is as it should be, in balance, Yin to Yang, Black to White, Zero to One, Kama to Sutra, Mutt to Jeff... ah.... oh crap. Never mind.

Go ride !!

For a seven year-old FJR with 4,300 miles, I think a better analogy would be a 50 year-old virgin in a little cerulean silver dress! But a damn hot old MILF of a virgin!..... :yahoo:

A friend of mine has an R1200GS. Cool looking bike. He let me ride it last year and I swear, after the Feejer it was like riding my old KLR. Not hard to understand the lack of passion, IMHO. Congratulations on the great find.

Good score on a virgin machine. Are you going to teach this one to fly???

There is a 04 ABS sitting right behind my house but it isn't for sale yet. It belonged to one of our members that died to young and his wife says I get first dibs once she decides to let it go. It has about 10k on it and hasn't run since NAFO in Colorado.

Congrats!

Made me miss my beloved 04', had to go to the garage to get my head right.

The 04' growls like a jet fighter plane when speeding through the gears....miss that sound.

Happy safe riding.

Holy smokes, i hadn't heard about the DOW being out for the count.
I never 'announced' it. It was a VERY difficult decision for me. I was really partial to the old girl. I was going to buy her back from the insurance company and repair her. But, as I started taking her apart I found more damage. Buy-back price and parts were going to cost about $3,000 to get her roadworthy, and about $4,000 to get her somewhat pretty again. Reason finally won out over emotion and I let her go. Just couldn't justify spending that coin on a 226k bike. In the end, it was probably the best. Insurance gave me a very good settlement amount for her - more than the purchase price of this new virgin FJR. :) And I was able to remove all the useable farkles from the old girl before turning her over. So I got lots of *free* farkles waiting to go on the new virgin including an Ohlins shock and Twowheelnut's GP suspension front fork internals.

This is my first real post since I've joined the forum over 4 years ago, I came close many times but never felt any of it was worth a reply, until now. Mabye its the planets and stars, who knows, but thats the best fookin news I've read on this forum. I can feel the love......and its all good.
Well glad I was able to draw you out of your cave! And I appreciate you and all the others picking up on my 'love' for my new virgin. She may not be able to replace the Dirty Ole Whore, but she is a new beginning in hopefully many miles of fun and adventure. Thanks for posting.

Hey Scoot,

Like you I have always wanted a GS/A since riding one in Europe a few years ago. I new if I were to do it I would have to have both for a season to make my decision. I figured It would lean towards the GS. I like the ergonomics a lot, Probably wouldn't ride it in the dirt since I own a WR450. I wanted to get away from all the fairings on these sport type machines. Bottom line I can never justify having two street bikes with the amount of riding that I do. I'm glad you gave it a try!!

No doubt the GS/A is a great bike. I have ridden them before which is why I was wanting one so bad. I am really surprised I didn't love it. Glad I was able to ride both. Part of my decision was $$$$ based, and as I mentioned, I'll most likely own another one someday in the future when I can more easily afford one. Still, I wanted a 2nd bike in the garage, and pristine examples of 2004 FJRs are getting harder to come by. I have been looking since June.

nice Greg, you gonna ride that to DV?

R
Not a chance. The virgin is going to be a garage queen for a while. I've got some maintenance and farkling to do and I am in no hurry. FJR#2 with only 55k on the clock is still my primary mode of daily transportation.

Congrats on your new love:wub:.....condolences on the ABS:cray:....but we can't have everything.....I hope you love her, enjoy her....& you have hundreds of thousands of adventures (miles) together:good:
