So what to you guys think of page 6-13 in the owners manual....on the right side of the page on bold type it reads "Do not use oils with a diesel specification of "CD" or oils of a higher quality than specified"
Now someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if I understand my oil specifications correctly, Rotella-T exceeds the CD specification. And if oils are to exceed a specification, it first has to meet it. So basically I'm reading that we shouldn't use Rotella-T in our bikes.
Mother Yami, can't be wrong..good luck to all using anything else... B)

21,000 miles on my '04 FJR, have used one gallon of the Rotella T 5W-40 full synthetic motor oil plus 8 ounces of STP Oil Treatment and the Mobil 1 high efficiency oil filter since the 1100 mile point, oil and filter changed every 5000 miles. Engine is quiet, no ticking, absolutely zero clutch slippage even under near full throttle upshifts, shifts buttery smooth, no problems whatsoever. Not a money issue at all for me, I just believe the oil combo works superbly in the FJR and is superior lubrication to the dino Yamaha stuff. I use the Rotella T synthetic in all three of my cars, my diesel truck, GL1200, my Nighthawk 700S and the two GSXR's that my son and I ride. Not a single problem in any of the vehicles or bikes. 167,000 miles on the GL1200, all on synthetic motor oils. Never had a clutch slip on any of the bikes.

Hey, do whatever you're comfortable with. I'm not trying to convert anyone.

Its Ok Lee, We're motorcyclists..psuedo convertables :D sorry...I have a querstion on this topic howesomever, I currently run Honda HP4 w/out Moly in all my bikes, 20-50 in summer, and I'd like to switch to Mobile1 which I've run in all my cages including 2 Volvo 140/240's with over 400k on each of 'em, they rusted before the engines gave up ! Is the new container have a Gold Cap and does it say for wet clutches or no friction modifiers added ? Havent used this flavor and due to heart/pacer crap I dont do my own cars anymore..mag fields etc...retiring minds want to know !!!

Thanks !

Bobby

Add me to the "Added non-synth Rotella T and now my clutch slips" camp. Immediately after my first Rotella oil change, I went on a four-day weekend to northern California (Redding and points east and northwest of it). If clutch slipping feels like you're feathering the throttle at steady, moderate speeds or under non-heavy acceleration, then I had clutch slipping. (If that sensation isn't oil-induced clutch slipping, then I've got bigger problems!)
I doubt that the clutch would slip 'at steady, moderate speeds or under non-heavy acceleration' but not under hard acceleration.

Perhaps you were experiencing the famous 'FJR Lean Surge'? When I first got my FJR it ran so poorly under the circumstances you describe that I thought there was something wrong with it. Everyone told me it was normal for these bikes due to EPA mandated lean 'jetting'. I compared it to another '04 and it ran just the same. I added a Power Commander III with Wally's Smoothness Map and it all went away.

It is written that on all motorcycle (or any transportation forum for that matter) forums there must be at least one (1) oil thread in use at any given time. This is mandatory, not open to discussion or vote. For his blasphemous and heretical suggestion I vote 04 FJR Pilot be stuck at FNG status for at least a year.... :D

I'm running the Rotella Synthetic - Chocolate. Anybody using the Vanilla or Strawberry, how's it working?

Bob Carter, the guy I bought my FJR from (do a search) uses Rotella-T in all is bikes.

'04 FJR1300 -- the one I bought -- 25,000 miles

early '90s BMW K75 -- 165,000 miles

early '70's BMW R90/6 -- 675,000 miles

Guess what I'm gonna keep running in Bob's (now mine) FJR?
