Oh Cheeze Whiz....BigJimBiker is from Lakeland!!! That's Manatee Central. Ain't no Sirenians safe in coastal waters now.

Bubba Mud Ranch!!! Right across the highway from the Flea Market. And about 10,000,000,000 miles from intelligent thought.

You guys out there have NO idea what havin' another Polk County, Florida pilot on this forum is gonna do to bring down the "curve".

I'm goin' ta bed and have nightmares about it.

I'd leave the sliders off until you get matching scratches on the other side.

Great idea, madjackdog (that name sounds made up)...I'll remove the one on the left side.

No, that's his real name, alright. I only posted on this thread to hear what Big Jim has to say about my avatar.

No, bustanut joker (are you really Festus?).
I refer you to rule #2 and #4 of the Forum Guidelines...no polictical discussion and no ass-clowns (google "waitress sandwich")

Gotta admit I'm pleased with the mention of forum rules bigjim ;) A noob that actually read 'em :good:

Now ease up there partner, I'm one of many wiseasses here B)

:jester:

not sure how everyone drops the fjr off the side stand, seen it a few times on the "other" forum as well.when i park mine i always leave it in first gear, kill the engine, roll it forward til it hits compression, kick the side stand down and get off the bike. the bike can not go forward, and is handy for parking anywhere if u are on a slight down hill, have parked all my bikes in the same way for 40 plus years and have never had one come off the side stand. i sure as hell hope these are not what we call in kiwi land "famous last words"

I'll tell you how. By omitting the step I have bolded above.

When it's all second nature so you're not consciously thinking about it, well... sometimes you just forget.

Well I'm not feeling so bad now...I did the same damn thing. How in hell I forgot to put that kickstand down. My 14 year old son was standing there watching and his eyes got real big but I'm not sure if it was the bike going down or the string of expletives he heard coming out my mouth!

I got by with a few small scratches on the left rear view and the crankcase cover.

Like stopping your car and forgetting to put it in park...just dumb ass stuff.

Polk County! I always thought it was known as "Poke" County down on Wrecker Highway. You know you're the ones who ruined the Sirenians for us. They're like goats, the run away when they hear a zipper.

By the way, one look at your picture and everyone knows the "curve" is flatlined...do they ever let you take off the helmet at the "home"?

Write back when you wake up. :yahoo:

Okay Mike, I have noticed your unique avatar on several other posts and I make the following observation:

Hey, it's like the great Babe Ruth said, "It ain't braggin' if you can do it!" and that's why you do it, cause you can!

You're my hero. :clapping:

I set mine down a few weekends ago in a Starbucks parking in lot full of my motorcycling buddies. Glad i had installed my 905 bars before leaving on the trip. They did there job and it was a soft enough set down that the bags didn't get a mark at all. I thought the same thing. Got it out of the way lets just not make it a habbit.!

The suspense is over...I dropped my new bike in the garage and scratched it. (note to self, "triple check that damn side stand and as soon as it's set, jump off and engage the center stand!") And, get this, Murphy's Law prevails-the very sliders that were to protect the new bike were on the workbench waiting to be installed! Oh well, a little elbow grease or maybe some touch-up paint and all's well.No more suspense, no more anticipation, just get on and RIDE!
Hi BigJimbiker, luckily for myself I read about the non-locking sidestand on this forum a few days after I received my bike. I guess I was just lucky it didn't fall off the sidestand during that time (I would have been livid!). Coming from HD sidestands that lock in place I thought all bikes had this feature? Man was I shocked to hear the FJR could roll forward and flip the sidestand up and fall over. Whose great idea is this to not make the sidestand lock with the weight of the bike on it? Seems crazy to me? Anyways, I ALWAYS leave my FJR in gear and roll the bike forward until it stops and then put down the sidestand so if it does roll a little it can only roll backwards which keeps pressure on the sidestand from the rear which helps keep pressure on the SS and helps keep from dumping the bike. I also try to never park downhill and always use a plastic SS foot plate as the SS foot on my FJR is kinda small and digs into just about any surface except for hard concrete. I've been trying to think of a way to make weld on tabs for the SS and SS support to make my FJR SS lock into place like it should.

Murphy always rears his ugly head when one least expects it!
