the paramedics strapped me to a back board which was utterly excruciating but what can you do;
Well its nap time. Any good advice on how to sleep with broken ribs?
Like others said and you found out from your ride in the meat wagon; sleep sitting up. Do a lot of walking and then do breathing exercises to get your lung function up to par.

Heal up quick!
I have been doing a lot of walking; about 2 miles a day.

PS thanks to all for the comments and well wishes,

My wife crashed her VStar at about 15 mph on a dirt road a couple of years ago and broke 4 ribs. She rode back home 60 miles after the crash. She also said it hurt more each day for the next 10 days so take it easy for awhile. I hope you heal quick.

Yup, coughing, laughing, sneezing and worst of all (since it keeps going) is SHIVERING. I was fortunate enough to not have nausea inducing pain killers. So I do feel your pain.

In 97, a tankslapper threw me off at 140 (90mph). Aside from assorted internal injuries (including a punctured lung by one of my ribs) and stint in the ICU, I had 3 broken ribs and lucky me, both collar bones were busted. So I had virtually no use of either arm.

When I finally got out of the hospital, on my back and heavily sedated was the only way to go for sleeping. And with no arm use and the resulting lack of being able to use stomach muscles thanks to the ribs, the only 'easy' way to get out of bed was my girlfriend putting her hands behind my neck and lifting to sit me upright, with my tensing my back muscles to keep my back straight. She'd then swing my legs over out of bed, then I'd lean forward just enough to be able to get up - that was it for the day.

I too did LOTS of slow, calm walking, with my rib brace and that stupid 'bra' for broken collar bones visible outside my clothes (IE no jacket) so it was obvious to steer clear of me. That's when I discovered the shivering issue and that was no fun. So if you DO go outside walking, just be sure you don't under-dress!

Good luck and heal-up!

Damn Kevin.. Hope yer feeling better man.

Duke & I send ya get well wishes! (duke has been enjoy'n the bag ya sent us, he's done about 3000 miles in it so far! Get better soon!

ooooouuuuucccchhh! I know that broken/cracked ribs can hurt. I took a rather unelegant tumble (below the chairlift of course) several years ago on a mogul run and cracked a couple ribs and broke my collar bone. The ribs hurt a lot longer than the collar bone, I'm afraid. Tender for weeks. Only Yukon Jack in super-medicinal quantities helped.

But you'll be fine and back on the road in no time. Glad you came out relatively fine- hope your healing goes well and your bike doesn't cause too much aggravation on its healing path.

Kevin sorry to hear about your get off. I am sure others will tell you if the Doc has not already. The ribs will be okay in six weeks, no sooner and no later unless you do something to aggravate them. Those suckers dod hurt. Take care and I hope you back up and at it as soon as possible.

Sorry to read about your recent adventure.

Barb and Bill said it....your recliner is your friend (and will be for the next month or more).

I knew I was getting better when I laid back on my bed, took a 2 hour nap and was able to get up. Hurray!!!!!

You're going to loooove your quality time with your inspirometer. Do it! Having lungs inflated is NOT fun. Trust me.....

A broken rib is NO so good my friend.

To puke or not to puke, that is the question?

Sorry to hear about this mess, glad to hear you are on the mend.

Danged beetles! :pooh_on_ball:
