Cinc it's Nasty Oh ho
Hello - To make a long story short, I was supposed to take the wife to a wedding in Colorado, she can't go now. I would just fly my but out there but the $ would be way to high for just myself. So now I'm thinking of doing it on the FJR - Potentially leavin Cincinnati Ohio the evening of 8/5 and returning the evening of 8/10. My thought is I'll knock down 4 hundred the first day and then the following morning do 1000 (IB) and take a long way through the mountains into Fort Collins.... Unfortunately, the one 2 wheeled sould I ride with who has the ******' wife said NO.

Anybody headed that way?

Any thoughts?

Just kicking around the idea!

Just do it! You got the bike, you got the desire, 2600 in 5 days is real respectable ride, but it ain't crazy. If you have a few good rides under your belt you should be up to it.

My $02

Do it. You don't need to ride with your buddy. Get a SPOT tracker and sign up with spotwalla.com so your wife knows where you are. You won't regret this trip.

If would do the 1K the first day and then the relaxing 400 the second day, that way you'll be in shape to enjoy the wedding. Besides, that first day will be pretty much straight and flat crossing the plains.

My thoughts are....DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2600 in 5 days isn't bad at all; pound it out a day or two of that, do the wedding, do some flower sniffin'...

Nothing like doing some time on a good motorcycle, but that's just the way I think!

do it. It is really just a 1300 mile trip. The rest is just coming home.

You have the right machine for the trip, you want to do it... and Ohio to Colorado in a couple of days is easy on the slab. Go for it!! :yahoo:

I went Detroit to Great Falls MT in a couple of days earlier this summer... no problem. your ride is shorter, so you should have no issues with it.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!!

Kansas sucks  Boring.... So what part of Cincy are you in? I'm in Blue Ash.

I did 3200 in 6 days over the 4th, so it's definitely doable. My last day was dark to dark, but the Feejer is a champ at eating miles!

All - I'm itching to do it, I don't think the 1200 will be that hard really... THinking if I leave Cincy at 4AM I can be in Fort Collins at 10PM for beer and then a 12 hour nap :) Honestly only thing that's holding me back now is I'm supposed to be on vacation begining the following Thursday through the following Sunday so this would end up eating up another 3 - 4 days of my vacation and I'm kinda selfish... Wait a minute I still get to use my vacation, hmmmm......

FJR-Don I'm in West Chester just a couple miles from you really... I head out to Athens and back every once in a while for a quick ride - 71, 35, 50, 327, 56, Casa Nueva, 56, 327, 50, 35, 71. Makes for about 7.5 hours of riding the best trip in Ohio if you as me :)

PM me next time your heading out for a day ride :clapping: We got home last night from the Adirondack's... 750mi day through some nasty weather

Just go. Do the 1K plus on the first day, because you'll probably be all jacked on adrenaline and itching to start the adventure. So you'll probably naturally wake up early.

Hammer out as much as possible the first day, then just relax for the rest of the ride.

Piece of cake! Bring rain gear!

Figure an average of 50 mph. to include gas, potty stops, eats, etc. this means riding around the speed limit or a touch faster.

Out west can be faster, but don't count on it.

2500 / 2 = 1300 miles per day...

1300 / 50 mph = 26 hours = 3 days riding of about 8.5 hours per day.

Get up, ride 100 miles, 2 hours, eat breakfast.

ride 5- 6 hours for 250 - 300 miles

When you stop for gas, check you map, and estimate where you'll be for the night.

Call motel/hotel and make a reservation. I found that many places were full by 3 pm. All the big chains have directories.

Stop and eat an early dinner.

Ride a couple more hours.... = 3 hours = 150 miles.

Total is 500-600 miles, it's about 6-7 pm and not pushing.

Get a hotel room, light supper, hot bath, and no problem.

That is 4 meals a day, but it works for me. <G>

Easy way to do 500 miles a day without pushing on any given day.

The "I'll do 1000 miles the first day" got me way too tired.

So I turned into a turtle... slow and steady...

I do make it a point to slow down below the posted speed limits in little towns. Can't afford any tickets.

have fun!

Rode from Medina. Oh to Sacramento in 4.5 days. Coulda made it in 4 easily, except I redid my seat the day before, was like sitting on a board..but that's in another thread.

Shoulda took I70, NOT I80... traffic at the I-80/90 interchange is a nightmare.

If you want to ride longer hours, call the motels ahead of time and make reservations, (good idea in any case) 2.5 to 3 days should do it for you, ... also, check for road constructiuon first, and try to avoid it.

Mary.

Ok it's been a long while and you all probably figured I either ended up rubber side up or chickened out. I'm proud to say I did it, hit it, loved it, and am ready to do it all again!!! I can't believe how easy it was and how much I truly enjoyed it. I'm going to put a ride report together tonight and put some photos in for visual pleasure...

Thanks for all of your support, and advice. I never go on a road trip without rain gear, and thought I might not need it... Thank god I brought it!
