So I decided to take a little night ride last Wednesday, about 930pm, after all the thunderstorms were gone. No problem, I do it all the time being the nocturnal type or so I thought. I have a neat little twisty neighborhood road that leads to my house that I like to take on the bike, not the most direct route but the best on the bike. I don't have to get out of hand to enjoy the road and usually do the speed limit, even in the middle of the night. So I round what is about a 80 degree right hand corner and Hello!! my lane is full of Monte Carlo!! I'm already near the curb on my side (in my lane) with no place to go so before I know what happened I've laid the bike down and am kicking away as best as I could. The car serves right and runs over the bike, still in my lane.
I started to do a body parts inventory (again) sitting in the street when somebody screams, I look up, see reverse lights and alot of Monte Carlo coming my way again!!! So I roll roll roll (I had a second or two) away as the car careens down the street for about a block before a bystander gets it all the way into park. Now I'm in a lawn and start to assess the damage, helmet scraped to the core, brand new jacket saved alot of damage to the right shoulder arm area, left leg hurts like a bitch-I'm thinking it got ran over by something.
The bike is flat, on the front end at least, punctured gas tank, bars ripped from the tree, Zumo smashed etcetcetc, windscreen shattered but no frame damage or fork damage that I can see yet. Frame sliders really worked good as no engine damage. Insurance will be out tomm.
Best part of the story is the lady that hit me, go directly to jail thank you. She admitted to no license, sr22, no proof on insurance etc. She was hauling about 4 kids around. So the kind officers go to look at her car and find some "proof" of insurance. One proof card with no date, one with a date taped to it, one with the new date copied onto it. Insurance fraud so I'm assuming no insurance, great but I think I have pretty good coverage for these things.
My leg is broken, fractured fibula but not displaced, I will see the doc again in the morning. My knee also hurts but it might be affected by this stupid walking cast. I will likely be missing a few weeks work at a minimum.
This is 2 bikes in 2 months or so, plus the bike that was on the trailer when I fell asleep last summer. Never had an accident of any kind before that one, I guess I'm overdue. The stupid thing is that I used to speed everywhere, ride without a helmet or gear or a seatbelt and just generally not have a care in the world. Never had the least problem. Now that I do what I should ALL the time and rarely speed (in the car) I can't keep a vehicle upright? What the hell?
At a minimum seatbelts and helmets have saved me from serious injury or veggydom in all three accidents. This is the worst I've ever been hurt. Weird.
