So I decided to take a little night ride last Wednesday, about 930pm, after all the thunderstorms were gone. No problem, I do it all the time being the nocturnal type or so I thought. I have a neat little twisty neighborhood road that leads to my house that I like to take on the bike, not the most direct route but the best on the bike. I don't have to get out of hand to enjoy the road and usually do the speed limit, even in the middle of the night. So I round what is about a 80 degree right hand corner and Hello!! my lane is full of Monte Carlo!! I'm already near the curb on my side (in my lane) with no place to go so before I know what happened I've laid the bike down and am kicking away as best as I could. The car serves right and runs over the bike, still in my lane.

I started to do a body parts inventory (again) sitting in the street when somebody screams, I look up, see reverse lights and alot of Monte Carlo coming my way again!!! So I roll roll roll (I had a second or two) away as the car careens down the street for about a block before a bystander gets it all the way into park. Now I'm in a lawn and start to assess the damage, helmet scraped to the core, brand new jacket saved alot of damage to the right shoulder arm area, left leg hurts like a *****-I'm thinking it got ran over by something.

The bike is flat, on the front end at least, punctured gas tank, bars ripped from the tree, Zumo smashed etcetcetc, windscreen shattered but no frame damage or fork damage that I can see yet. Frame sliders really worked good as no engine damage. Insurance will be out tomm.

Best part of the story is the lady that hit me, go directly to jail thank you. She admitted to no license, sr22, no proof on insurance etc. She was hauling about 4 kids around. So the kind officers go to look at her car and find some "proof" of insurance. One proof card with no date, one with a date taped to it, one with the new date copied onto it. Insurance fraud so I'm assuming no insurance, great but I think I have pretty good coverage for these things.

My leg is broken, fractured fibula but not displaced, I will see the doc again in the morning. My knee also hurts but it might be affected by this stupid walking cast. I will likely be missing a few weeks work at a minimum.

This is 2 bikes in 2 months or so, plus the bike that was on the trailer when I fell asleep last summer. Never had an accident of any kind before that one, I guess I'm overdue. The stupid thing is that I used to speed everywhere, ride without a helmet or gear or a seatbelt and just generally not have a care in the world. Never had the least problem. Now that I do what I should ALL the time and rarely speed (in the car) I can't keep a vehicle upright? What the hell?

At a minimum seatbelts and helmets have saved me from serious injury or veggydom in all three accidents. This is the worst I've ever been hurt. Weird.

I'm sorry to read about your dark times. If it were me, I could hear my wife saying..."I told you to be safe on that thing!". As of now, ignorance is bliss for the SO. I'm just waiting for my day in the barrel. At any rate, I'm glad to read that you are in one (if not broken) piece. I hope you get back to riding soon.

jocko,

Glad you could make this post...this is good news but sorry to hear about your incident. Life at times sure does deal some strange hands. Now that you have had 3 incidents, you are good to go for a Loooong time.

May the force be with you!

I said Damn! That's a hell of a story and every biker's worst nightmare! I hope you are up and around soon. Good luck.

Glads you're in OK shape, could have been much worse. Sorry to hear of the accident and you had to encounter the driver from hell. :dribble:

Heal quickly. Take your time getting back in the saddle, don't push it, and go at your pace. ;)

Glad you came out of this as well as you did.

And, I'm really glad that you kept your wits about you when the crap hit the fan. IMO, doing so is just as important as ATGATT.

Damn, double damn! What a wicked story. I'm glad you're mostly ok and that the insurance-challenged woman stuck around long enough to be apprehended. SHEE-ITE!

Take it easy, heal up.

Damn dude!

While your brush with death was unfortunate, I'm very glad you're still around to tell about it.

You actually had the driver stick around? Amazing!

Heal quick.

Geez...I was scared and I was just READING the story rather than living it!

There is nothing more frightful than rounding a blind curve and having someone aimed at you in your lane. BTDT, but survived without injury to my person. It takes awhile for your insurance to calm down after a spate of incidents, but it will.

The most important thing, as others have said, is that you are here to tell us about it. AND after surviving a "double dipper" (trying to run you over by putting the car in reverse).

Absolutely.

Incredible story.

Any ideas on what the hell was up with the second attack in reverse? That's just, well, bizarre.

I applaud your composure. It took ALL of my self-control not to turn around and haul an SUV driver cell phone user out of her truck and strangle her after she put me between the white line and a rock face by coming around a curve at me in all of my lane.

First of all.......glad you are here to tell the story.

Second.......they (not really sure who "they" are exactly) say bad things happen in threes.........so this should be it. I mean what are the odds??? I would end up in a padded room I think :dribble: :dribble:

Thirdly...I hope the Doc's have given you some "good" painkillers....taken with the correct amount on beer of course <_< l

Paging Dr. Leary...........Dr. Leary??

"double dipper" (trying to run you over by putting the car in reverse).

jocko-

Well written my friend! Maybe think of writtin' a short story while off work.......?

Did you actually have the impression that this "lady" was trying to reverse over you after hitting your bike?

Heal quickly.........

Hope you are back on two soon. Its people like that, the reason our insurance rates are so high.

Ths sucks man... Makes me think twice about not having un-insured motorist on my policy...

I can't really figure out why she did come back. I'm surprised the woman didn't just keep going. She may have been dumb and irresponsible, but at least she had a conscience.

Either that or she was coming back to rob you, and was surprised you were still alive...
