I have a question about the throttle response on my '05.

I am used to a smoother cruiser style roll-on on my valkyrie, where there is no abrupt surge or decel response where you work the throttle.

On my FJr it seems that anything less then the smoothest of throttle control results in surging and abrupt decel responses.

My question is, is this typical, and how have others adressed this. i love the FJR, it's just I wish she was a little smoother around town..

Thanks.

It's hard to say without riding your bike to know if yours is unusual or not. I do know that the throttle response on my FJR is no different than on my R1 or my Duc. I know I'm always conscious of being smooth with the throttle anyways, so that may color my perspective. Hey, let my ride your Valkyrie and I'll do a comparo.

The issue may not be the "abruptness", but that there amount of response.

The FJR has a lot of power and its a bit lighter to what you are used to riding. Give yourself some time to get used to how quickly the FJR will accelerate and to learn how little throttle is needed.

You might want to try something like grip puppies that will effectively increase the diameter of the throttle and perhaps slow the "feel" of twisting the throttle.

Hiya, Doodle!

You're talking about totally different bikes.

I also have a Harley Dyna Wide Glide. The differences between that and my FJR are night and day. One of the differences is throttle response. Compared to the Harley, the FJR is 'twitchy' to changes in the throttle.

For me, I use completely different riding styles from bike-to-bike. In addition to the differences in throttle response (ya gotta be smoooooth!), I shift the FJR differently than the Harley. Again, totally different bikes, different riding styles.

Give it some time. Learn a different style. You'll get it.

You might try adjusting your throttle cable so there is very little, or no, slack. Adjust it to the point it starts to affect the idle and then back off a little. It made a difference on mine.

Thanks guys!

Love the velocity of the FJR, very addictive.
