So I am trying to install a Throttlemeister on my 08. I have put the little assembly (for lack of a better term) into the bars as far as I am willing to force it and it still sticks out quite a bit. There is about a 1/3" gap between the end of the grip and the TM bar end. I assume that it shouldnt be that way, but I haven't actually got a good look at one installed. Below is what I am looking at. Do I just need to force it in farther? It doesnt seem to want to go, but I am sure it is nothing a little tap from a hammer couldnt solve... :dribble:

You pulled out the OEM insert, right? My TM install went very easily. Thoroughly clean the inside of the bar,and it should slide right in.

Well fer once ol' Clawed Balls is right..

Ya need copious amounts of this **** to get things right on these temperamental Bastages ..

Well, I tried all the alcohol I could stand but still no go. I did pound in the assembly a little bit more, but I still get the gap. I am wondering if I got the wrong parts. There is a 1/4" spacer that the instructions say is supposed to go inside the bar end. When I put that spacer in, I get the above pictured results....as in it sits off the bar about 1/4 to 1/3 of an inch. If I don't put that space in, it sits right about where it is supposed to be, but I can't get the screw so snug up...it just keeps spinning and it won't hold the bar end tight enough to allow me to engage the brass piston. The whole bar end just spins.

For those that have the TM, did you put in the 1/4" metal spacer inside the bar end?

I have an '08 w/Throttlemeister and at the top of the instructions say Yamaha R1/FJR1300 Assembly Instructions. You said something about a spacer, my instructions didn't say anything about a spacer. You may have the wrong parts as mentioned.

Hmm. Mine says R1/FJR1300 at the top. Is this what your install paper looked like? That little silver spacer that is sitting on the paper is what is screwing me up...

Wish I had a scanner to show you but my picture doesn't show the bar with the o-rings separate from the Throttlemeister. The throttlemeister is shown on the bar. It doesn't show any sort of spacer.

Looks like you have the same instructions I do. I can't imagine what the problem is. The only minor issue I had was trying to get the bolt tight without extending the bronze sleeve.

Ok, the mystery has been solved and it all comes down to my reluctance to pound the **** outta the piston assembly to get it in the bar.

I called TM today and I am supposed to have the spacers because I have the heavy bar ends (K Rider, I assume you dont have the heavy ends). TM suggested that I put a little plain water on the O ring to help lube it up a bit. I did that and then tapped it a little with a hammer and I finally coaxed it in. It seems to work just fine now, but the test ride will tell for sure.

Thanks to all for your replies.

I agree with some of the other posts. I installed a TM on my back in spring 09 (08 FJR) and never had that problem. Installed perfectly. I did not have a spacer with mine either. Someone at TM might have put the wrong parts in the right box or something of that nature.

I also have the heavy ends and still didn't have that problem. Something just ain't right.
