Drank the Kool Aide and did the the Warchild tint/paint conversion on my stock shield which turned out as nice as the pictures here. Scrubbed the surface with a 000 steel wool to facilitate adhesion and not have scratches showing through the paint layer. Used a gloss enamel instead of satin which did not result in any nuisance reflections. One other side benefit was that the instrument cluster being shaded and not washed out from bright sunlight is easier to read(depending on the suns angle to the bike of course).

Thinking about this for the bottom half or 2/3's of my +4 +3 Cee Bailey winter shield, but would appreciate comments on the profile the painted to clear transition line should follow that would look the best (fastest).

Too bad there wasn't a gradient tinted shield like the cruisers have ....https://www.memphisshades.com/harley-shades/sportshields-family

Yes, I agree. Living in Florida, everything I have is tinted except the FJR. That is because I do need to on occasion look through the shield at night when it's raining, etc. I know many of you have far more experience in all kinds of conditions than I, but that's the way I "see it", and why I didn't order a tinted shield (Cee Baily +4+3 flip).

I would be very interested in tinting the bottom tho in a manner similar to the memphis shades linked above.

For my sun/eye/tint protection, I have a drop down tinted shield on my Nolan N103, and can wear sunglasses (prescription) on top of that when needed.

I do still have my stock shield and could play with it like WC or some others did to theirs, but, to be honest, I don't really foresee running that shield much anymore; if anything I'd add a laminar lip to it like is mentioned in another thread. In fact, thinking about it, that might be a good combo for a tinted version to both see how well the LL works and tinting.

Damn, I knew this was gonna cost me some more $$$$$$$$$$$...

I just cut down a spare stock shield and will be using VHT Nite Shades to tint my shield. Used it on tail lamps of a custom truck I owned - made for platics tails lens, etc.

Van, could you tell us how you cut down your shield? Thanks
Used the jig-saw method talked about in this thread:

How did you shield turn out once it was finished? What clearcoat did you use? I just cut down a shield, and I am debating between painting and the VHT Nite Shades.

Am I the only one who occasionally looks through and not just over the windscreen?
When it's cold outside I'm right down behind that thing.
I often ride through a nasty wind tunnel here in N. California at night, I have to lay on the tank and look through the shield to keep from being blown off the bike. Tinting would look nice, but function must overide fashion sometimes.

write up:

tape the 'outside' of the screen.

paint the 'inside' of the screen with plasti-cote spray paint

allow to dry

remove tape

mount on bike
