While cleaning up my bike today I got scratched by something as I was cleaning the front fender. I found the culprit, it appeared to be some wires that were sticking out the tread on my front tire. Since I do alot of wiring and electrical work in my garage, I thought I had just run over some on the floor and it had stuck in the tire. No big deal, I'll get some needle nose and pull it out. Well, it appears that this was not wires, but part of the radial belting inside the tire. As I pulled it, it started ripping the rubber tread. My bike is an 05 with the original Metzler's. I only have 6000 miles on them and there is plenty of tread left. Is this a tire defect and would it do me any good to go back to the dealer about it? The bike is out of the original 12 month warranty and covered only by the YES coverage. I just didn't know if there is a warranty from metzler that may cover this issue.

OK OK, I apparently missed the "known issue" with these tires. Will Metz do anything about it or do I just call it the cost of doing business and buy new tires? Did anyone get Metz to replace them or how was it handled?

Damn, thats scary looking!

Metz may do something about it...doubt that Yamamama will with 6k on it but you never know with it being such a wideknown issue and a big safety concern.

Why would you even want another set of Metzler ????

Move on bud ! :D

+1 on the "move on". But definitely worth a trip to your dealer (if local) to get a free tire change. You buy the replacement and they do the change/balance for free. That's my suggestion.

I went to my dealer and bought a new Bridgestone BT020 for the front. I also called Metzler and they are replacing my tire. The dealer is going to keep the replacement and give me a credit for the cost. I'll use that credit toward a new BT020 for the rear. I am happy, worked out well. Thank you to everyone who contributed info.
