Ok, I'm on my stock tires (Bridgestones) on my '08 and headed to WFO in Moscow. I know mileage can vary a lot, but...

I've got about 2500 miles on them now. I'm headed out this weekend for an overnighter and will probably be at around 3500 miles on them when I leave for Moscow.

My round trip to Moscow and back (from here in Idaho  ) is almost 1100 miles. So I'm then at 4600 miles on them. Add the rides at WFO (possibly 600 more miles) and I'm looking at rolling back into my driveway at about 5200 miles on the stock tires.

I have a new set of Micheline's sitting in the garage. Do you think I can put them on After WFO, or just plan to before. Thanks for any advice.

BTW--I always ride solo, moderately aggressive, weigh about 185 w/o gear, and keep recommended pressure in tires.

You have nothing to worry about. My 08 came with Metzeller's, but I have 11,500 on them. I wil be putting some PR2's next week, but I could probably still get another 1000-2000 miles out of these if I really wanted to strech it.

I could certainly get that much out of a set on my '07. What town are you in? We rode from SLC to Boise a couple of weeks ago on our way home from the FIM SBK races - may have passed your place!

It depends on how you ride. What "recommended" pressures are you running?

Some riders wear out BT-021s in 4k, others in 10k. Beyond tire pressures, surface roughness, temps and other minor issues, the biggest difference is in the right wrist. The more you hammer out of corners, the harder on the throttle you launch, the quicker you will wear the tires out.

Do a quick measurement of the tread prior to use. Usually this will be between 6-7mm. As you wear the tire out, you can measure the amount of tread used and then make a reasonable estimate as to how many more miles you can go based on the depth left.

Of course this may be subjective to the type of riding you have been doing and that which you will be doing, as well as the road surface, temps and right hand action. Just use good judgment.

I'm in Idaho Falls. If you went the good way to SLC, you may have come through here (i.e. around Palisades Reservoir, Bear Lake, etc.). If you superslabbed it the short way you probably missed me to the south.

Thanks for the advice so far--it sounds good. My main concern was everyone saying that's just too many miles to get out of them, but I'd sure like to leave them on. Sounds like they will probably be fine. I'll start monitoring tread depth...

Just go out and run 'em ragged, then put the new ones on and you'll be warmed up for WFO. You need more miles to get in shape....

The stockers went away very fast on my 04 in the last 1000 miles before the "other" WFO in Moscow. Ended up having a rear installed at Palouse to be sure we could get home. Tread depth is a start, but they may not wear evenly in the last 1/2 of their life...

I got 5200 miles on mine when I hit the front tire's wear bars, I had the oem Bridgestones I think.

My front was cupping pretty so I switched to road smarts, I could have gone to 6K probably. The road smarts lasted till 6K and then the wear bars showed a little on the front and I was into the bars a 1/16" on the back, I would have ran them to probably 7K if I could. I'm leaving for a long trip and went ahead and put on road II's today. I ride fairly hard in the mountains while loaded with luggage/camping gear most of the time. I would say most people can expect 5 to 6K on FJR tires for all around use. This is my third set of tires on the FJR and they all could have gone at least 6K, it all depends on the rider's throttle style and weight. I'm 270 pounds, 6'-4" and carry a top box and saddle bags full time loaded with my "needed" items.

I wouldn't worry about that BT021...The rear anyway...Keep an eye on the front. FWIW I ride pretty hard and got 6k out of my rear BT021. I had a Pilot Road (not II) on the front that would have gone more, but I changed them both out about 1500 miles ago for Roadsmarts...
