Too Much Bling?!

Normally, I make no comments about aesthetics which are up to the individual, but since you asked for opinions .... yep they look contrived and punk to my eyes. I don't care for the FJR's Blue Flame, the MV Augusta, and the new Triumph Sprint pipes either. If there is a single pipe going back there, then there should be a single muffler - anything else smacks of trying too hard and extra weight strictly for the look.
But if you like them, that's all that matters.

:stupid: Too much in my book! Plus, they don't make good power either and fit up was a problem if I remember right. At least that's what was rumored over on the R1 forum. I think it makes the *** end look too big. Everyone's tastes are different though, so if that's what floats your boat, go for it!

I think they look out of place on the Raven because there's so much black compared to the amount of bare metal. They'd look better on that bike if there was some polished aluminum or stainless in the engine bay.

Since the above problem does not exist on your red R1, I think they'd look great on that bike. The polished stainless would compliment the color of your bike very nicely, IMO.

Well, a big *** end isn't always bad......

I personally think the chrome is a bit much....It's distracting from the rest of the clean sexy lines on the rest of the bike.

crome is the way to go .......... or what other pipes fit the r1 ... how long can you ride that bike before someone has to remove you from it .

The longest day ride so far was a 550-mile blast through Oregon/Idaho/Washington last Saturday (July 23).

Naturally, a set of Heli-Bars I had ordered arrived late Friday afternoon, so there was no time to install them prior to departing around 5AM the next morning.... would've been nice to have had them installed prior to that 550-mile ride....

It is always a surprise to people how long you can ride the R1. The helibars will help a lot.

Pull the cover of the seat off and add a quarter inch thick piece of foam or padding to the bottom of the front of the seat mold. This eliminates the tendency to slide the boys against the tank when braking.

My grandfather was a dairy farmer so the first thing that I thought of when I saw the rear view was a milking machine.

Milking machine

The '05 red R1 is just about the coolest bike ever, I personally wouldn't like to see one with the milking machine on the back :(

Sorry.

Cheers,

Jim

Makes the bike look like it's got a jet engine. Not too far off. I think they look cool, but..... you would need to lose the rear seat pad for a solo, and remove the passenger pegs.

and remove the passenger pegs.
They have no business being there anyway. If ever a design was tailored for the single rider, the R1 is it. Only a 90 pound crack ho can fit, have you seen the tortured position the back seat forces one into on modern sport bikes? No one over 30 can physically do it that I know of. Add the screaming thats bound to ensue as the horsepower peak approaches, why would ya wanna subject yourself to it? :D

Well me and my GF are both 52 and she on rides on my R1, but we just recently went to N.C. and she was going to be sport and ride on it. I even lowered the rear pegs 1 1/4" and added a gel pad for her. I just couldn't see her doing 800mi. on it in 4 days, so I bought the FJR, she was really appreciative and all was good then! lol Plus, the R1 goes back as a single seater now!

I don't have any experience on the '04, but my brother and I took my '99 R1 from Cavalier, ND to Great Falls, MT to pick up my '02 R1. We made the 700 miles in just under 10 hours. We rode a tank of gas and then switched rider to passenger every fillup. I also had the Ventura luggage rack on the back. The front end was just a little light that day :) For reference, I am 6'2" and about 210 and my brother is just about exactly the same size. He wasn't ready to go much further that day. I wasn't feeling too bad, but then I was in a lot better riding shape than he was.

I don't think they fit in the shape of the tail very well. I much prefer 2 oval cans that fill the void, and look like they belong there.

I'll bet they're pretty squiddly loud, too.

:)

I have to agree with LiquidSilver, and some others here. I don't think they really look good on the R1. I really like the "tucked up under there" look of the stock pipes compared to those which look odd (to me at least).

Pretty simple question for me guys.

Do they add power? Then they are beautiful.

Are they just bling? Then they are ugly.

FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION!

Warchild.

Stainless Steel can be blue'd, grey'd and black'd with a chemical bath. Different brews do different things.

Maybe Eric V. would know?

I dunno, the 4 hole exhaust thing looks gay, as in, an orgy of holes to fill. :p

Can't you get a single exhaust up under the fender? Those IMHO look the best. Sano, fast.

Bling ya later,

GZ

Upon much review and consult, I've decided to go another way with the undertail exhaust. Like, do nothing for now.

Too, it's not like the stock exhaust doesn't already look ****-hot, and sounds amazing to boot:

So, I believe the $$$ saved by not going after aftermarket exhausts right now will go into some mundane items instead.... Pilot Powers, chain/sprockets, etc.

Thanks for the comments/opinions......
