Thanks for all of the advice regarding buying a bike in California and also regarding the YES 48 month extended warranty purchase.
After calling several of the Cali dealers noted on this forum, I went back to my local dealer and expressed my desire to buy locally. Accepted his offer for an '06 FJR1300A, "out the door", with the YES (48 month extended warranty) for $14,110.
Asked if I should expect to wait until June for delivery and was told it would probably be later than June, but that I should receive notification from Yamaha, prior to year's end, noting the anticipated delivery date.
I'm glad that is over. After having investigated this bike for the last couple of years, including a trip to Alice's a couple of weeks ago (to see the AE), I was torn betwen the A and the AE. The deciding factor was the $1,800 difference in the MSRP (although the dealer apparently has a little more negotiating room with the AE) for heated grips, a silver/gray color, and the electric clutch. Also although the factory rep (at Alice's) made the electric shift sound attractive, it was too much of an unknown, without anyone (even a mag) having ridden one. If it turns out to be the cat's meow and if they come out with a red model in a couple of years, maybe I'll reconsider. However, considering that my current bike is a '77 (KZ1000), I'll probably be riding "Blue Thunder" until I'm consigned to the bone yard.
Thanks again for the great advice and for the service that this forum provides. Look forward to seeing some of you on the road, next summer. I'll be the guy with the big smile.
