One of the amazing things about Beartooth is the 70 MPH speed limit once you cross into Montana...in spite of the hairpins and serious consequences of misjudgment.

I did 36 just last month, and it is a fantastic road, but I'd say the PCH is more technically challenging between Garberville and Ft. Bragg. The Blue Ridge PKWY is kind of a puzzle to me. It has a 30 mph speed limit, loads of law enforcement, and heavy tourist traffic. The pavement and turn radius on the corners is second to none once you get past the detractions.

The honorable mention of Hwy 50 in Nv is interesting. Very much unlike the other roads in the bunch, and no shoe tree anymore.
The Blue Ridge Parkway speed limit is 45 for most of its 469 (?) mile length and I've never had a crowded ride on it (but I haven't ridden it in the dead of summer-only fall or spring).

I see the list and say, yeah that's a good list of roads, but I wouldn't say that is THE definitive list.
Exactly. That's the problem with ANY list of this kind--50 greatest movies of all time, two dozen hottest looking women in the world, best hot dogs in Chicago--any of 'em. Everybody's got their favorites and everybody's got an opinion. Highway 50 across Nevada, for pete's sake? Long, straight, hot, and boring. Going to the Sun Road? CHOKED with traffic for the three months per year it's open. The Dragon? Hell, it's only eleven freakin' miles long, isn't it?

Not to mention the great roads we love that don't make the list. I think they just print things like this to generate controversy.

Kind of surprised that the River Road (FM 170) between Presidio and Terlingua near Big Bend didn't make at least the Honorable Mention...

I'd swap that with the Natchez Trace in a heartbeat and never look back.

I enjoyed the Cheif Joesph Byway on the way to the Beartooth as much as the Beartooth, anyone in the area should include it.

Not too bad, 11 of 15 for me and I'll make it 12 this summer. ;)

Yeah, but have you done SE Ohio? :clapping:

Oh yeah, you have. But you haven't done the SE Ohio roads I'VE done. drc32-0 and tstaff have shown me the secret roads that you haven't ridden yet...maybe someday you'll come back and grab those as well.

Along with the Hooterville 400, etc

Now's the time to ride the Blue Ridge. I didn't see any police on Monday when I rode up from Asheville to Roanoke, didn't see many cars either. Had to start at Asheville since it is closed south of there. Didn't get to ride that much of the Parkway last year.

:yahoo: :yahoo:

Agreed. I'm not a big fan of heights and Beartooth scared the snot out of me.

Early morning at the summit of the Chief Joseph:

Fluffy does all of Barry's dirty work and is a force not to be trifled with! jes' sayin'

I keep hearing about SE Ohio, I'm gonna have to spend some time in that area (Wheaties next campout?). If it's anything like WV (and it looks like it is..), it must be stellar.

The rest of Ohio though.. <shudder>
