does anyone have a link for the tubular rack that replaces the grab handles, to mount a givi topcase? all i'm getting in searches is the givi tubular rack to accommodate givi's sidecases but nothing re: a tubular rack for a givi topcase that keeps the fjr sidecases. i want the 5-point rack that everyone is talking about (including warchild's fjrtech page of the rack), but can't find it.
thx,

PCA also sells the Givi rack.

I can't find a good picture of the Givi rack on a Gen II, but I have seen them, the tubular side mount you see in the picture is not included.

I think the PCA rack referred to in Silent's post is a 3rd party adapter that mounts to the Yamaha stock carrier, and provides a mount for Givi cases. There's more pics in this thread. It retains the 5-bolt structure of the stock rack and hand-rail, so the cracking subframe shouldn't be a problem, but since it retains the plastic rack (vs. the Givi steel) I would be concerned about weight capacity.

Had I found that when I first got my case, It's probably what I would have done, as at the time I was concerned about keeping the "factory" appearance of the rack. Looking back, it's just as well that I got the Givi rack if weight is a problem on the stock rack, because I've carried some tonnage in the top case a few times. Givi says 13 pounds, I've probably done 20 a few times.

yep. all photos on sales websites that i found showed the topcase rack _and_ the sidecase rack together, so i was just assuming it was all one unit. thanks for the assist.

PCA= Primere Cycle Accessories, yup 3rd party.

I've carried some tonnage in mine as well, and gone well over 5k miles loaded to the gills. I have no issues with the way it's mounted, or the strength. YMMV tho.

With several members reporting subframe cracking using only the three bolts in the back, I think the Givi set up is a bit stronger. Granted, there's no factual or scientific basis for that opinion, but the more evenly distributed weight provided by the Givi since it mounts in several locations by replacing the grab rail, I think there's some merit to the opinion.
Here's another shot for your collection. When one utilizes just the 3 bolt points instead of all 5....you easily get this kind of thing in Gen 1 and Gen 2 subframes. There are three confirmed forum members that have had this happen so far. The lever arm those setups create is substantial and you put 15 or 20 pounds in a case, run a few thousand miles, and you're very likely to have cracking.

You wonder how big a hassle it is if you crack your subframe? Clicky here for the first of a three part write-up on a subject I wish I didn't have to write.
I am going to be in the market for a top case in a couple of months. What you are saying here is the Givi rack is the way to go? I have heard that the sw-motech adapter is a very good product. Is this maybe a suitable set-up since it appears that the top box would not extended back as far as some adapters? The sw-motech adapter looks like it uses the strength of the stock grab handles.

Those with the cracked subframes had removed the grab handles and used attachments that did not have the forward arms for the front two bolts, but only attached to the vertical section at the rear of the subframe. Since the entire load of the topcase was actually behind that, the frame was subject to serious stress. The grab rails, whether stock or Givi, gave a forward bracing to offset that stress. They removed the rails to make room for other stuff over the pillion seat, like fuel cells.

Iggy's warning about the cracks basically means to use hardware that keeps all 5 attachment bolts, and not just the three at the back.

As for how far back the box sits, if you need room for a passenger, a forward-set box will make it pretty crowded.

Great info. Thanks for clearing that up.
