I don't have a copy of the service manual yet, but I have an immediate issue I need to resolve. I'll be replacing the oil pan so I need to take the exhaust off and the pan itself. I'm not sure what the torque specs are though and I was wondering if somebody could let me know what they are. And, if anyone has any tips I'd appreciate it.

I'd let the dealer do it, but with the holiday coming up I don't think they'll have it back in time for my trip. Plus I figure there's nothing better than learning how to take something apart!

Header nuts and muffler coupling bolts are all 20 Nm. The oil pan is 12 Nm and the oil level switch is 10 NM. Don't try this with a 120 lb/ft torque wrench even if it goes this low, you really want an in/lb torque wrench or an appropriate Nm wrench for these low torque values.

Send Galaxyblue a message, he has been there, done that.

John,

The oil pan bolts are 12Nm / 8.7ft-lb

I would use 25ft-lb for the drain bolt

Headerr bolts 15Nm / 11ft-lb

Thanks guys!

I have a smaller 1/4" drive and a larger 3/8" drive torque wrench. I think the little one will be fine for this. It measures both Nm and in/lbs.

Hopefully I won't have too many other problems! I just knocked out the first problem, removing the stripped 4mm socket head bolt out that holds the skinny piece of the cowling under the oil filter. I had to dremel a slot in it and use a small punch. The socket had been stripped previously as the first time I tried to remove it I couldn't. And I use decent tools too, not crappy ones! I ordered $100 worth of hardware and gaskets so hopefully I'll have everything I need.

Hmmm, must be a manual revision because my Gen II manual, P/N 3P6-28197-E0 also shows the same 14 lb/ft as my Gen I manual. In any case, Jet has a Gen I.

I'm at the point where I need to remove the side stand. But it looks like the 2 bolts that hold it on also provide Support. Do u guys know if I have to support the bike to remove it?

Put the bike up on the center stand and yank the side stand off.

Yep, exactly as described! I appreciate your feedback. The job is complete. It wasn't half as bad as I thought it would be.

Thanks all!
