These are people who've stepped forward and want to share their state by locating memorial sites there. If you'd like to sponsor a state by providing 10 memorial sites and some state-unique "Bonus Sites," we'd like to hear from you. PM me so we can discuss what's involved.
If you're listed as a sponsor here and change your mind, PM me so we can open up the state for someone else.

Thanks to all for participating at this level!

I think this will go great with my Dam Tour rides. I'll be signing up.

On another note.. glad to see a post from you Dale. :) This dang forum is becoming like an extended family to me. :)

Dave

On another note, this has turned out to be a great excuse to farkle the bike. Last night I installed my Wild Bill Highway Pegs. My Ram-bone GPS mount came yesterday too. Thanks to Robert Ford for sharing the deal on Amazon (even if they did send me the wrong one - aluminum adapter will be made this weekend). Throttle lock is in the mail as well as a Rapid Transit Division tail frame bag. I am really looking forward to this trip.

Thanks for the info. When the sites come out for Texas I will check it out, I would love to do it. My son is currently active duty Army.

This is great. Will be moving to Vegas in the spring. If they do anything after I get to town, count me in.

I wish!

There is no way for me to ride to Nevada from here... waaaaay too many passes between here and there that are snowed up.

I'm not a candidate for a trophy.... but I do plan a BBG out of scarfing up all of Nevada in 24 hours.

But it won't be for a couple months yet... :angry2:

Starting in Pensacola, Florida's 7 are 1050 miles . . . . .

Hmm-m-m-m. . . . .

Getting home from there is another 750, though. Long-*** damn peninsula!!!!

I had a little window of time available on Sunday so decided to snag the first memorial on my list, the USS Hornet in Alameda. I have lived in the Bay Area my entire life and never seen this majestic beast.

https://www.uss-hornet.org/

The Aircraft Carrier USS HORNET Museum is a national treasure, having participated in two of the greatest events of the 20th century -- World War II and the Apollo 11 manned space mission.
Now peacefully moored at historic Alameda Point on San Francisco Bay, the USS HORNET is a timeless memorial to those who defended our American values and to those who have pursued America's technological advancements.
I knew JD/sidecardog was also participating in the event, so I shot him a message and we hooked up to ride up there together. The weather was perfect although I could feel the temps dropping due to the imminent storm a’brewin.

JD’s camera battery wasn’t working so I took a few pics of him and his rig. We got a lot of curious passersby asking about the bikes but mostly about this:

JD’s stoic pup and constant riding companion, Hercules, joined us on the trip as well. This is one sweetheart of a pup although he seemed more interested in sniffing around than looking at some big old ship.

The first memorial…

JD was gracious enough to prove I was there with the bike…

He is dedicating this tour in honor of a young man, only 20, who was killed in action in Afghanistan. The paint was barely dry as we headed out.

This ship is enormous! Standing in front of it, looking up at the top flight deck, one wondered what stories it might tell could it speak.

View of the water on the other side of the dock… water was calm for now but shortly the winds would be kicking up a storm… literally!

It was nice to have a kindred spirit to kick off the tour with. We chit chatted a bit and then needed to head back for other appointments so we scooted back down 880, JD head off down 237 and me toward home. I had to stop and take a couple pics of the tumultuous western skies, the sun working hard to try and shine through the swirling clouds…I love the energy that precedes a storm…

And yet, turning east, the pink blossoms against cotton ball clouds was the other side of the equation. I think Mother Nature is a little confused round these parts!

Next up will be the Bakersfield memorial in April on my way to Death Valley… maybe Lone Pine too! 
