Hopefully someone has used this and has an answer.

Can the sock be installed if shock is on bike?

Or is it excessively PITA and recommended to install cover with shock off bike?

Naomi awaits, I don't the sock in hand yet.

A better question is whether you should install it at all given the environment in which it will be used. I would guess that the sock is going to trap a lot of dust from your driveway that you are not going to be able to wash off.

Don, On my '05 I had Traxxion put on a Penske and AK-20 fork cartridges and I had them slip on the sock.

I was doing a ride (Mississippi Headwaters) and I completely "blew my shock" on the way from Louisiana to Minnesota.

I called Traxxion from Iowa after the ride and scheduled an appointment with them in Georgia on the return to Florida.

They rebuilt the shock and recommended that the sock not be replaced back on the bike. They figured the shock was

damaged ( in part ) by a heat build up. They told me that on the FJR the shock was fairly protected by the design and placement

on the bike. They felt the sock only added to the heat build up and was better left off. I do not know if this was an "Answer for the Moment"

or not, but I have come to trust them with my suspension issues.

So…. I would leave the sock off. Just my $.02.

McRide, I had not thought of it that way. My thinking was to keep the shock from being exposed to dirt and particulate granite thus keeping the seal alive longer. Then again, you are right. Out of sight, can't be cleaned, can't see if problems are developing.

Hi ya Tony! Heat build up? Me thinks that's a stretch!

..however, I'm thinking of leaving the sock off for now. Naomi will not be a daily rider unless KrZy8 dies. E.g. Naomi won't be seeing the dirt road everyday.

How many miles on the shock??

I had one on my 8983 with remote reservoir, no issues. Might be a pain to install on the bike, pulling the lower mounting bolt might help. To make it easier to wrap around and Velcro together.

I have the shock rebuilt every other year… Unfortunately that means 90k or so per rebuild.

The shock went at the end of the first year at

50k.

I like your idea of splitting the sock and using velcro to close it up. This would allow you to remove it and clean the build up of crap that occurs.

per traxxion, 40k is the mark, so you doubled that and then some . if it went 50k it was past and needed service

my shock sock was from last winter/spring and was a velcro seam down the side stock like that.

i sent my shock in early, for preventative maintenance, and to revalve slightly, they told me it was junk at that time and was overdue for service. this was with no sock. i added the shock after the service last winter.
