Mogan,

If you are taking "The Cat" ferry and are staying overnight in Bar Harbor, I recommend The Bar Harbor Motel. Its literally down the street from the ferry which is nice if you have to get up early to catch it, it is reasonably priced by Bar Harbor standards, is very clean, is on the free shuttle stop which runs into town and up into Acadia, and has direct trail access into the park. "The Cat" also runs from NS to Portland ME if you are looking at cutting some time off your trip back. Also, I found the northern route across NS to be actually a nicer ride than the southern route but thats just my opinion.

I did this trip 2 summers ago- it was excellent. The people are amazing, the food was excellent (chowdah, mmmm).

If you can, plan to stay a nite at the:

Cabot Trail Hostel, Pleasant Bay on the Cabot Trail

Cape Breton Highlands, Nova Scotia

phone: 1 902-224-1976

Owners are great. They also offer whale watching on a huge fast zodiac powered by twin Yammies, no less - which was fantastic. At the end of the day, the owner suggested we hit the restaurant next door for steak & fresh crab - still one of the best meals I've had.

Be careful of early morning fog & moose!

Our whole sordid ordeal is here (pics start around page 10):

If it hasn't already been mentioned, Peggy's Cove is nice for taking pics. One other thing, they are 1 hour earlier than DST. I found this out after missing 2 whale watching boat rides. It's been 12 years since we went, but you could camp up at the Cabot trail area for a rediculous price, I think it was 10 or 15 bucks for a week.
