I now am an expert at re-welding said part back on to be legal. Kind of like getting your virginity back. Like beemerdons has done. :D

????? Me too. Do you like it?
I have 2-Bros CF cans no mod for me. I'll leave the spare stockers stock. Looking at the sheep jumping off the cliff, they love it! :yahoo:

Wow. Just came across this thread. Outstanding.

I still prefer the look and weight savings of an aftermarket exhaust, but really don't like the cost. As far as bang for the buck, or value, the Trooper Mod is the dog's danglies! And nice audio comparison clip bogus.

I bought an extra set of stock exhaust to do the same thing. I want to cut about 4 to 5 inches off the end and fabracate some exhaust tips if i ever get time for my own projects.
Trooper mod, cool as it is, is the lazy man's way. If your a real man, who likes a challenge, here's some weight savings and non-stock interesting look a long with some sound:

Interesting. Like the longer pipes though. Just my preference. That and I don't have the experience with the welder to pull that. I bet the tailcones would set those off. -Trooper.

Gorgeous weld on those cans, Skoot. I'm jealous. Always wished I could do that. In the years I spent in a tool and die shop, I put together a number of different projects, but always relied on my buds who owed me a fav or two to take care of the welding. So often now, I wish I'd learned a little more than my 2 week high school welding class taught me.

Anyway I thought of a better way to shorten the cans... No welding, no hole saw, no dremel work. Just put a monster 12 inch wide CT on the back wheel, and burn em off!!!!!!

I will...just need to borrow a dremel AND the time after I reassemble my front calipers and other maintenance items on "el bastardo".

BTW, I noticed by your mod that you're a little shorter than the rest...as per usual...oh Annapolis boy wonder. ;)

:D

web site says they've tested it to 150F. Not sure that would be good enough for the leading end of the cans. My wife seems quite capable of melting her heels on there. It has to be higher than 150F

Two questions, 1) will the Power Commander need a different map and 2) from what I have read here the Trooper mod is irreversible. I wonder if it would be better to buy aftermarket exhaust and sell the originals to offset the cost of the new slip on's. The benefits being that the originals are as they came from the factory and could help out another member who wants to revert back to the stock exhaust or replace damaged cans.

I have had no noticeable change in fuel consumption. Still great in mid 40s. Upper 30s if I put the boots to it. Same as always, just a whole lot better sound....

My FJR has been Trooper'd! :yahoo:

My hat's off to Trooper for sharing this mod with us. :clapping:

We need to form a 'Loudsider's' club - with stickers and membership numbers and everything! And to hell with cookies! We'll have beer! Lots of beer!

Wasn't too bad. I don't use my dremel very often and was struggling with it. What a great mod for $21 from Home Depot. Sound is good. Definitely not as loud as my old Holeshots. I preferred the louder and throatier sound of the holeshots, but for $21 this is great. Thanks again Trooper.

Oh, and Wheatie......I could tell just from the sound of the pipes with the new mod that my fuel mileage is going to increase by 28.7327%!!!! :D

I did all cutting with exhaust on the bike, the removed them and shook them out. Below is what came out of the two stock pipes. Oh, and this is after I started her up with the pipes on to blow a bunch of it out. ;)

Skooter, we need to talk. I think loudsiders club has just been formed. Membership sounds great too. I'm member #1 ok? We can have patches and everything. I'll be thinking of sticker ideas...sounds good.

Heading to Home Depot tomorrow, so I can join the club!

On the V-Strom International Forum, this type of mod on a Vee" is called the pea-shooter mod! It's slightly different cut, but it produces a similar result.

I'm good with calling it the Trooper mod over here.

Going to open mine up manana~.

Thanx all :clapping:

SkooterG, aren't you glad you took them off and shook them out? Wouldn't want to imagine what all the cut off wheel material and shards of metal would do if not.
