You know, if it wasn't for those little tiny dots on the ground, you'd have no real idea the size of that monstrosity.

LOL. BUT the PETERBILT probably trucked the parts in to build it, and I swear I can make out a ford f350 crew cab dually on the ground that those people just got out of. :yahoo: :yahoo:

 
Jestal, you make great points about the value of the commercial. But, in reality, ALL commercials lack real value. That isn't their intent. Their intent is to sell.

As far as the Chevy towing the Toyota trailer, that point is about as, well, pointless, as the commercial. Toyota doesn't make a vehicle (in the US) for heavy duty use like an F350 or Silverado 3500. The Tundra is a light duty truck that is designed to compete with other light duty trucks like the F150 or Silverado 1500.

Now, I may be using the wrong formal terms when using light or heavy duty, but if you are going to compare, at least compare apples to apples. I don't see a Silverado 1500 or F150 towing that trailer either.

Pony, I agree. My point is that the Tundra commercials would have you believe that the Tundra is capable of anything a 3500 series pickup could do....which it cannot of course. You really have to read the fine print on those ads to see what they really portray...or be an engineer.

Certainly all commercials are meant to grab attention and sell. Some are catchy, some are intertaining, etc. All certainly will take liberal artistic license claiming that the product in question is "the best." As an engineer and understanding the true capability of the Tundra trucks I feel the Toyota commercials cross the line of being misleading as to what the true capability of the vehicles are.

The picture of the Silverado isn't a commercial. Just an actual, real life photograph. So there is no "point", really. Just the obvious that the Toyota cannot do that, period, and had to resort to using a Silverado regardless of their commercial claims.

 
I drove a Tundra with the larger V8 at a local farm store. Toyota factory group out of California was putting on demo's at local Tractor Supply stores. They had a tongue pull trailer weighting 10,000 attached to one of the units. The truck was very impressive handling that weight considering it was only a (heavy) half ton. I drive a chipped one ton Dodge Cummins and tow heavy (backhoes and small dozers) on a regular basis. The Tundra handled the weight better than some of the big block domestic gas rigs I have driven. I was very impressed with the whole truck. The factory engineers indicated the service life of the engine was 300,000 miles with test mules having in excess of 400,000 miles on them.

forgot to mention thr factory guys said Toyota was testing several 3/4 and one ton heavy hauler trucks with a diesel engine. They said they were testing 3 different diesel engines (2 imported and one USA) they thought the USA motor was for comparsions only and the final engine in the heavy pickup would be an import.They also indicated the new plant in San Antonio TX was built with provisions to produce a HD diesel pickup line at some point in time
 
If you ever find youself needing to stop a C130 make sure you buy the Ford F-150. I saw them do it on the commercial so it's obviously the best choice! :glare:
