I'm new to FJ's and the hardest thing I'm having, getting used to it is the non-self canceling turn signals. Are there any self canceling conversions out there? Maybe even just an audible "click" or "beep" would be helpful. Do these bikes have a standard relay, like cars do, that can be swapped out for an extra loud one?

Paul

I'm sorry, but I just have to point out, 9 threads on the page, not a single one of them a new question, all of them discussed endlessly in the years this forum has existed, and then on other forums for the years the bike has existed. About the only thing you haven't asked about is LED taillights, premium or regular fuel, and windshield size.

n00b stuff happens, but in the registration procedure you were shown a butt-load of resources to look at, which you haven't, including a couple ways to find things you might want to look for. Best way is to Google the site with something like:

bike jack site:fjrforum.com

or

self cancelling site:fjrforum.com

This method is shown in the new members stuff that was suggested to you.

Good call wfooshee.

Not to be hard on you el camino kid ... most here are happy to help but this forum appreciates members that are able to self- help too. Just some brotherly advice.

oooh Kid, you stepped into a pile o shit....just make sure you watch the sidestand and never, never report you dropped the bike because of a sidestand issue. And when you do, man up and cry as little as possible....! :yahoo:

I feel your pain El Camino-[do you have one-I did , a '69 396-rotted out on me but I digress].After 30 years on bikes with self cancellers I still leave the signal on occasionally. Don't laugh-I stuck a pair of turn signal arrows on the mirrors with mostly concealed wires tapped into the front signal lights with posi-taps. Can't miss those babies and the brain dead cagers seem to see them too.

I happen to be one of those that thinks self cancelling signals should be required by law. Say what you want but cagers turning in front of bikes because their signal is on is one of the largest causes of motorcycle/car crashes which leads to lots of death and destruction. I will probably wear out my switch just because I am always pushing it to make sure the signals are off.

Well ...ex-Cuuz ME! I guess I'll just slow down,shut-up and try not sound so un-educated.

Not a good move friend.
oops...looks like my big mouth got me into trouble...again. My apologies to all. I guess I'll just take my new friend (the "search" button) and spend more time getting familiar with how this site is set-up.

Just have to say here - I know the information exists on the site, and the reminder about searching is always helpful, especially for new folks who might not know that Google search is possible.

But sometimes, it's interesting to see conversations raised that might interest others.

I hadn't thought about turn indicator modifications in quite some time. Perhaps someone would have come up with a new answer? Pretty obvious that a bunch of people were curious enough about the topic to peek.

Anyhow, there are some very fair responses here, and good guidance given to read the rules. Just politely suggesting that we might not stymie a conversation that might be productive at some point. There's lots to learn.

I'd second this comment. Mostly for the reasoning "Why not have turn signal cancellation?" Is there actually a downside?

I agree wholeheartedly zip. I've been riding bikes for 30 years that had self canceling turn signals. Now for some reason they don't have them. I can't be a cost issue. I mean, how much more could it cost?

LOL! I am "push the cancel button" obsessed too. I seem to have developed a touch of the "Wapner in 15 minutes!" as I have gotten older.

I thinks there advantage to both

If the rider learns to self cancel as needed, then ya good to go

I've seen self cancelers turn off the turn signals way early as for safety sake, many turn them on 1 mile from an interstate exit, etc. They turn off at 1/2 mile and aren't signaling folks unless they are noticed off and reactivated.

I like a loud beeper (which I have wired up - purchased from JC Whitney) or would like a brightish light indicator in line of sight like on the mirrors or somewhere
