I finally got my new (used) engine installed and it runs great.

It really sucked not being able to ride the fjr during that time. I have a GSXR 750 that I rode some of the time but it just isn't a very good street/commuter bike.

Some of the time I actually had to drive my car, that really sucked!

Funny thing about my new engine, it has supposedly 2k miles on it yet when I put it on the same Dyno as before, I lost about 5 HP from the old 100k mile motor. Maybe it needs to break-in a little more?

Anyway, it sure is good having my baby back!

Ha, ha. I was kidding about California guys. Really! I love Cali - just pissed b/c I don't get to live there!

Anyway, a while back in a diff thread, I mentioned that I took my '03 in for "ticking" and now I wanted to give you all an update - a kind of commentary on Yamaha if you will.

Keeping in mind I bought this '03 2nd hand with 15k on it a few months back (now has 22k), I took it to my wrench (great guy - works on all my bikes) to get the TPS fix and have him look at the ticker.

I started by calling Yammy b/c a) I was the second owner and B) I had no YES warranty on the bike and c) I didn't want to pay for this myself! :D . I did want to see if they'd cover the ticking fix though, based on what I had been reading in this forum. They said "no promises, but have your wrench verify any problems and have him call us." Well, he did and found that No. 3 cyclinder had the problem with the "excessive exhaust valve guide wear". There were some other probs too, so he asked them if they'd cover a rebuild and guess what? They said rebuild the puppy (less replacing the head) and they're covering it all! I was shocked - and still am.

It's nice to know that a company stands behind their product like this. I have to tell you, I'm still floored about it. Say what you will about mama-yama - I'm a loyalist from now on. Of course, I'll still own other makes and models too! :rolleyes:

Hope this isn't cosidered hijacking a thread. I thought it was in line with the topic about Yammy covering things outside of warranty and without a YES plan.

Oh yeah! '03SB - congrats on getting your ride back. Now I'm a waiter...but at least it's not prime riding season out here.

I have had my good experiences with Yamaha too, but your story is awesome. WOW indeed!

 
So I am heading to Shoshone Ca. and I see the odometer turn 100000 miles. I am thinking this great! Everything is going fine, and I am feeling all proud of my FJR turning 100k.Shortly thereafter, the bike starts running real bad. It seems like it's running on three cylinders. I make it back home and I bring it to the shop today to have it checked out.

The shop does a compresion test and one of my cylinders is at 40% and they recommend a new engine.

I ask them about rebuilding the head and they said they would do it but they didn't think it would be a good idea. They said that something else might go wrong later.

Any sugestions?
I'm guessing without knowing that rebuilding would be out of the ? with labor so $$$$, why not try to find a wrecked FJR and get a salvage engine. I'd bet there some out there with very low miles. Anyway that's M2C.

Read the whole thread. That's exactly what he did.

Glad to hear you are back up and running 03silverbullet. Bummer it happened in the first place, but at least we all learned something about the dangers of the PCIII.
