Fairlaner>>>>>>>>>> re "Where the hell is EaglesCliffe?"

250 miles northeast of London.

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=eaglesclif...ved=0CBkQ8gEwAA

Googlemap says it's in the county of Durham but that's incorrect.... it's in the county of Cleveland.

Just Googlemapped your co-ordinates Latitude: 33.4835 Longtitude: -118.18564 as per your profile and you must be Marine Boy cos your house is in the sea...... slap bang halfway between Huntington Beach and Santa Catalina Island!!!!!!!!

So either you've got an underwater house and an amphibious FJR (in which case RESPECT) or if you're not the famous "Oxy-gum" chewer then I got some bad news for you...... someone's stolen both your humble abode plus your cherished wheels and ditched them off shore!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you're the victim of this heinous crime then these guys can help>>>>

GOOD LUCK - YOU'LL NEED IT.

Rogdeb>>>>>>>>>>> re "Far, far, far in the frozen NE Richard - A far flung suburb of Liverpool - They speak funny there"

1st bit...... correct

2nd bit..... It says you're a scouser in the info beneath your avatar so have they moved Liverpool to the east coast whilst I was asleep???...... Eaglescliffe's a far flung suburb of Middlesbrough.

3rd bit........ correct....... they do speak funny in Liverpool - they do in Middlesbrough also - but I'm a savvannah (southerner) from dan sarf (down south) way down London town so I speak Cockney.... the dialect of that region.

Fairlaner>>>>>>>>>>> re "Ahhhhhh that explains it."..........

You lost me on that one????????????

All this time I thought is was we Americans who couldn't understand when Roger and Richard communicate!?!? :dribble:

It's worse when they're "live" rather than on the forum!

Hugs and kisses, guys, hugs and kisses.

Mike

Mike, you're just not paying attention. Roger and Richard are easy to understand, even when Richard is drunk. (Of course his vocabulary is limited to a few, choice four letter words). :p

We visited Niagara Falls, walking round to the Canadian side and taking the boat trip (world's largest cold shower?), then camped at a KoA on the island. In the morning on 190 between Niagara and Buffalo Geoff made a late turn off the road and I was blocked from following him. I took the next exit and tried to go back and re-take the turn but, without local map or satnav, it took a while to get back to what 'might' have been the turning. After over an hour of doing this I decided to make my way independently to the KoA near Utica, from which I type this on a bench by the river in idyllic settings. Still no Geoff as yet. Tomorrow will be a loop thru the Adirondacks and then scurry back to Baltimore, where the bikes have to be booked in for shipping on Friday.

Regards

Chris

RESPECT with a capital r........

have to meet up for a few jars and a larf if my dream comes true and I manage to do a trek like Chris's one day.

Hope my "Voyage to the bottom of the sea" & "p!ss take" underwater bike links didn't cause any offense........ just having a Giraffe (Cockney rhyming slang).

Don't wanna sound a "clever sh!t" but what worked for me with the grid reference by trial and loadsa errors was I went onto Google map, I found my shack, zoomed in, left clicked on it, then right clicked and selected "Directions from here" and Shazam!!!!!!! abracadbra!!!!!!! the numbers appeared as if by magic in box A in a window which opened up on the left.

Take care mate and keep it between the hedges.

Chris>>>>>>>>> keep the commentary going..... makes real interesting reading!!!!!!!

 I thought I only added the reply once, but who can tell?

Today I rode 28 past the Adirondack lakes one to eight, and then a couple which had actual names! Pleasant ride but too many trees to get much of a view. After that it was 'get south in a hurry time' so I took I87 down to Newburgh, NY. I should be close enough to Baltimore now to risk a bit of scenic road tomorrow. Me and the road atlas are going to be living a life of sin.

Got a voicemail from Geoff and we should be meeting up at the Washington KoA.

Regards

Chris

We met up and rode to Elkins, West Virginia, for 3 final days riding around the Allegheny mountains. Now back in Baltimore ready to deliver the bikes to the docks at 07:30 tomorrow. We have ridden 12,000 miles in the last 5 weeks. Flight back to the UK on Wednesday evening, and then it is all over.

Hi Chris,

As per my post dated 27th Aug @ 1.22pm>>>>>>>

Hi Chris........

sounds amazing what you guys are doing!!!!!!!!!!

I'm also from England and would like to get in touch to find out how much it cost to send your bike by boat to USA and back compared with transporting it by air.

Plus to pick your brains re why the bikes got delayed by Customs when they arrived at Baltimore and to get any tips re trying to overcome those problems........

and for any tips and advice re your trip.

Gonna do it myself some day.

Hope all goes well.

>>>>

So I hope it did all go well........ all I can say is congratulations on completing such an epic voyage!!!

If it's ok, wud like to get in touch for reasons as stated above.

Regards,

Txoria

Now back in the UK. Bikes will not be back for a month. The cost per bike for the shipment out and back was of order £1000. We never even thought about air freight.

The bikes did not get caught up in customs; the boat was three days late. It took about 2.5 hours of TWIC escort time to get them out from the docks at Baltimore, and half that to export them again (you cannot go into the docks without an approved escort). I got prior EPA approval for mine, Geoff did not, and it turned out that Customs did not care either way. As for other tips ... I guess they will come out in the ride report.

Glad it's not the capital of England cos if it was all the national newsreaders would have to speak with a "scouse" accent and no-one outside that small northwestern backwater would be able to understand a word they were saying.

LONDON RULES!!!

Take the tube to the "East End" of town for some jellied eels and a pint of "London Pride" next time yor over the pond.

London Pride, Fuller's flagship beer, was crowned the Supreme Champion at the 2000 International Beer and Cider competition. London Pride was named Champion Best Bitter at the CAMRA Great British Beer Festival in 1995, and in 1979 when it also achieved the ultimate accolade of Beer of the Year. It also received the gold medal at the 2002 and 2001 International Beer and Cider competitions.
