Well,

I've had 2 sets of Bridgestone 020's, two sets of Avons and one set of Michellin Pilot Roads.

IMHO, the Avons grip the best with the close 2nd going to Bridgestones and Michellins are like riding on the hard plastic that my big wheel had when I was a kid. Okay...not that bad, but they just don't grip like the other two. This is very pronounced when going over tar snakes and the like.

Not only do Avons grip the best, they lasted the longest for me of the three.

again, IMHO, I have not found competition for the Avon tyres. They rock.

Can I have a free set now? :clapping: probably not...shucks.

Orange, I have to ask...

Have you tried the Diablo Strada???

Because I am very impressed so far.

Nope, no Pirelli tires yet. How many miles you have on them Diablo Stradas?

(does that translate to Devil Land?)

Pushing 5,000 on front. Front looks like it will make 10,000 easily.

About 3,000 on rear. Looks like it could go 6,000 easily.

I have been romping hard on both. So this is fast shifting, at least a couple thousand in the mountains, rest is on this damn flat, tar/gravel sandpaper surfaces.

I like what somebody said to me in a recent tire thread, concerning tire life...

"You didn't buy an FJR to putt around!"

:)

Haven't found anyone to consistently beat SWMototires.com. Order two tires and get free shipping. I typically order one front and two rears.

Code Name Quantity Price/Ea. Total

Jeff:

I have been reading the tire threads and have decided to order the Diablo Stradas. There has been a slight price increase at SWMototires since you wrote above, but my local dealer has agreed to match their price. The sales tax I'll pay will more then be offset by the lower price they charge to mount on tires bought through the dealer.

I just got back from 1600 miles in the mountains of CO and NM and the rear tire has a 2" wide flat bald spot. The front tire has some cupping partially due to improper steering stem bolt torque. So I am due.

What knda mileage did you eventually get out of your Diablos? Did you ever experience any cupping or handling problems? Anyone else have Diablos they could report on?

Thanks,

For ****'s sake! Diablo Stradas, get them , put them on and enjoy them! I'm on my second set about 10,00k's great in the wet and dry...

Cupping issues? try increasing your air in the tyre! I run 40 in the front and 42 in the rear.

The Diablo Stradas come in Wednesday.

Thug:

Do you get the same distance from the rear and front or just replace both at the same time?

I try to run the tires at the recommend pressure, but don't check it frequently enough to ensure it stays there.

Thanks,

I must be doing something wrong er right I mean. I have almost 9,000 on the original Metzlers. I have taken it on several long trips in the Mountains, so no, it's not been all freeway riding. I keep them inflated properly, and seem to be getting a LOT more miles than many on here. I am about to change them, probably at 10,000. Definately before any more long trips. I only get 3,000 on my R1 tires, but these Metzlers seem to last pretty good. Am I the only one here who actually likes this tire? I'm not trying to win any MOTOGP races and yet I do push it fairly hard in the twisties and still seem to get good wear.

Yep I replace them at the same time....The front obviously lasts longer than the rear!

This is a key factor in the preservation of tyre wear...I check them every ride I go on I kid you not it makes that much difference

Thanks,

First Metzlers, then Michelin Pilot Roads, then Avon Azaros, then Avon Storms. Got around 8k+ miles on everything except the Storms which went out faster. NOW, trying Pirelli Diablo Strada's and after a couple of short (150 mile) rides in the canyons, one with bags and one w/o bags, I couldn't be more pleased.
