I know we had a big, long thread discussing this situation back when it happened but I can't find it now. Ricky Gear is now at trial this week for shooting 21-year-old B.J. Mough as he rode past his property after following his daughter home.

Link to story and video

Verdict to come next week!

The comments below the courtroom video are as telling as the vid itself.

What a brain-dead, single-helixed mouth-breather this Ricky Gear is... :glare:

Hopefully they will just burn him and be done with it...

I like how he said, "I did everything I could not to shoot him!"

Yea, everything except go out of the house with a loaded firearm.

Thanks for the link Fencer, I looked all the way back to February in this section and couldn't find it. Insert legally blind excuse....(really, i am) :blind:

If you hear the verdict, let us know.

This was what...The second or third time this jackass had gone outside and either brandished his gun or fired shots in the air to "scare" someone away? He says the bike was coming straight at him and was going to hit him, but then he didn't fire a shot until after the bike passed? This guy is guilty as Hell, but the real problem is that I think he actually thinks he was in the right. He feels like he was making the best decision he could make every time he fired that gun or used it to threaten someone. I also wonder why, if everyone was so scared for his daughters, no one called 911 until after Gear shot that kid. If they were that scared and concerned for their safety, that should have been one of the first things they did. It is a shame that people can be so stupid...

If they were all so scared, why were they standing at the end of the driveway, watching the biker supposedly pass them, then turn around and try to mow them down (with a raised gun pointed at said biker) when they could have just walked (or run) to put one of the many trees on the property he referred to between the rider and themselves?

What kind of response to this type of threat is "Honey, get my truck keys!!"?

No, he intended to try and run down the biker, but the keys took too long, so he shot the kid instead.

One thing for sure we only heard part of what happened. There is a lot more information out there tha needs to be know before judgement can be passed. Is he guilty yes and no.

His judge ment most likely will be, man-slaughter or hung jury. I do not think there is a penalty for being just stupid, as was Mr. Gear was.

That is why I do not own any guns, once you pull the trigger nothing is ever the same :trinibob:

Too late. Guilty!! Life plus.

Very short jury deliberations... convicted on all counts, life plus five.
Closing arguments today, jury convicts today; obviously the case was pretty clear for the jury.

But the shooter was also sentenced today? Kinda unusual, but is that how they do it in Georgia?

REQUEST: please let's not turn this into a politicized gun thread. (I'm not knocking the common sense wisdom of things not being the same after pulling the trigger, but pro and anti gun comments have gotten threads closed before)*.

*Last time I said anything about guns here, it was to state what California enforces on something. Someone jumped me about it, but best I could tell, we actually had similar beliefs on guns and probably woulda enjoyed shooting together (and not at one another).
