I'm late to the game with the 190/55 rear. Mounted it up yesterday and should be able to get out for some miles pretty soon. My flavor is the PR-4 rear and Bridgestone T30 front. I have a Penske shock and already run a higher ride height than stock. I'm not expecting a lot of difference in the fee..

K.J. have you ever changed out that tire you mounted in 2012? How many miles did you get?

Good to hear u mounted up a 190/55 brotha Tom! Yer goona likey it, the turn is most noticeable.
I got great wear, always kept psi at 42-44, I had to plug it from a nail puncture, so that was the only reason for its retirement on my Feejer. The only visual difference I've seen was your chicken strips will be a tad larger. I know some say it isn't, but it is. I say whoTF cares!

By OEM default, my K16 has the 190/55. It's been so awesome and I haven't even thought of fat siding the Beemer ....and the costs go up like crazy when playing in the 200mm + range.

Michelin recently introduced the PR4 in 190/50-17 size. OEM on the new BMW 1000 crossover. Anybody looked / tried that?

I don't care per say, butt wut I found interesting is that w/ a 180, I usually have no chicken strip in the rear and 'bout 1/4" in the front. When I run a 190, I have 'bout 1/3" rear, and maybe 1/8" front. It's kinda disserning to me know'in I'll ride off the edge od the front tire 1st. :dunno:

For once I agree w you, more or wider non-used rubber strips w the 190/55 vs the 180/55.

Say, I need to send some of this snow your way, you get to ride too much! lol :)

I've gotten about 150 miles on the new 190/55 tire so far and I like it. Turn in is just a bit easier and while I haven't challenged the chicken strips much with all the road debris, there does seem to be some extra room there. Speaking the cinders and chips, it gets a bit dicey and you need to stay in the cleaner tire paths. The new tire does seem to get a grip a bit faster when things start sliding a bit, but then again, it's not bald.

Isn't the larger non-used rubber strips an indication the 190 width tire is being squeezed more (since it's mounted on a wheel originally designed for a 180 width tire)? Sounds like you now have a smaller contact patch when the bike is leaned over.

It's my belief that the only way you'll run a 190 to the edge and eliminate the chicken strips is to lowside the bike. I can get to the edge of a 180 and there's a big line on the 190 when I run it. And the untouched tread is basically vertical--90 degrees to the ground almost.

Don't think the cp is smaller whilst leaned over, butt it prolly is when verticle.

Glad to hear you're all out having fun with your new tires...*******s

This is killing me...my bike has not sat on the center stand this long, since I got it. It's now going on 5 months.

...back to the thread about upsizing the rear tire to a 190.

Hoping a fresh set of moto-tires cures my handling ills, I just got a set of T-30 GT's. Fatsider version.

So far I'm liking the 190 I purchased as part of a set a couple of years ago. I've less than 10 hours of riding on the new boots, so they're just getting scrubbed in, but turn-in does seem a tad quicker.

Mostly I'm getting accustomed to the freshly installed risers, and just enjoying the sheer awesomeness of riding after the winter PMS blues.

(Sorry Joe!)

We're actually going a little taller. Mostly, it brings the speedo slightly closer to true. Turn in seems to be faster, but new tires always feel better. The idea is that the bigger tire is a little more squozen so the center sticks out some, lifting the rear a bit.

OR, it could all be ******** and we're just looking for another reason to pay an extra $20 for a rear tire. Lol...

Fact that the speedo iz more acurate iz proof the circumference really iz larger.

Well now... I've ridden OEM 180 55 17. All types. Sport touring, touring, race compounds, full race, CAR tires R rating of course, the last set I put on are Knobbies!!! So when ordering tires the other day I thought , meh why not, ordered a 190 55 17 Bridgestone 023. I'll give it a whirl.

Rob

OEM, darksider, brownsider, future fatsider.
