This poll is to gain some insite from fellow riders. I am a web developer and often think about ways information could be handled. In the past week, I've changed the oil in my bike and two vehicles, mounted new tires on the bike, wired aux power on the bike and installed a new shield. These events got me thinking... would like be easier by keeping this information digital instead of filling the back of my user's manual with hard to read lines of garbled information?

What I'm purposing is a tool that would allow the ordinary person to record maintenace done per vehicle; tracking every oil change, tire change, or accessory installment to allow for easy reference in the future. By entering this data along with periodic mileage updates, a user would have the ability to create custom alerts to remind for oil changes or other recommended maintenace. The system could also incorporate a rider's log for an extra fee to allow for trip logs with mileage information, trip routes, blog or whatever other useful data there may be.

Just trying to get a feel for other's thoughts... this would take a few months to put together but don't want to start something that has no aparent value.

Thank you for any and all insite you have.

Michael

I suppose there are those "technophiles" who would appreciate an on-line service record site.

I'm a paper & pen guy when it come to record keeping. I have an accordian file in which I keep receipt, downloaded/printed copies of maintenance and farkle articles from the different websites:

https://www.fjrtech.com/ by Warchild

https://www.fjr-tips.org/ by Bounce

https://www.fjr1300.info/ by Hmarc

I have also written frequently used torque specs on the inside cover flap (axles, pinch bolts, drain plugs, etc.) and keep a running list by date, mileage and function (service or farkles).

I keep it stored with my supplies so it's always at hand.

For me, having to pull up a website to find information I have close by would be more trouble than it's worth. But then, I am a dinosaur.....

YMMV

Basically the same for me, it's just that I'm not nearly as organised!

I keep a file folder for receipts and other paperwork. I use a spreadsheet saved up on Google Docs to record when I do oil changes and other maintenance as well as the mileage, trip logs (fuel, etc) and if I'm going to "blog" about the trip I put it on my blogspot account and link it here unless it's a short report and I just enter it here. I typically put an oil change reminder on my Google calender, which sends SMS message reminders to my mobile.

There's a list of saved bookmarks/favorites in my web browser about a mile long...thankfully I have a laptop I can take out to the garage when I need online info.

Why not make it ad-based? Get some of our favorite sponsors to buy spots along the sides? I can easily ignore those :)

My $.02

I use a spreadsheet for each of the vehicles.

As for the poll, the last question should've included "Whenever I do maintenance."

Google Docs...
+1

A few years ago I bought that bike maintenance software that's Access DB based. Nice program, but being tied to one computer made it a total PITA.

Take your favorite spreadsheet to Google Docs and you can update it from any web-enabled device.

I appreciate the input from everyone and judging from the poll questions and replies, the willingness to entertain other solutions is just not there.
