DAAAAAAAAAYMN, I'm getting jazzed for this event..... I depart for the Start Line tomorrow evening! B) B) B)

It's been like a Greek tragic comedy trying to prepare for this event... wrestling with WFO-5 logisitics have consumed me here this past month, and put me well behind the curve in fully preparing the Blackbird for this Endurance Rally.

Fresh Pilot Roads were mounted up Sunday night (rear tire took a large amount of weight for a Pilot Road - 23 g! :angry2: ), but I was shocked to discover upon installing the new Tsubaki chain that the damn thing came with an old-school style 'C'-clip master link!!!!!

Frantically, I called up Gary McCoy (who I got the chain from last year), and he graciously overnighted several different staked master links for a 530 chain to me free of charge. Even better, when I was mentioned my master link woes to Guru Glen at FJRGoodies.com yesterday, Glen raided the master link from a new RK chain still in the box! Score!

So I got the chain all hooked up, adjusted the Pro-Oiler just so.... I am SET! B)

This is going to be an AWESOME Utah 1088..... check it out; even the weather is going to fully cooperate!!!

Looking forward to it!

Oil was changed, stator installed, leak check done, fuel topped off, and 'overflow' requirement done. Tonight I pack my gear and pick up some maps I dont have. Skoot and I leave at O-dark thirty Thursday AM for SLC. B)

I'm suddenly realizing that there will be a quorum of FJRForum admins (Warchild, SkooterG, and myself) in one place at the same time kibitzing over 3.2% Utah beer. Maybe we should set up a telecon with slap from the bar? :D

Reminisce with vecter about dears done tagged too. :dribble:

That weather looks great! Thanks for the forecast. I don't mind being cold in the mountains now that I have Widders, but the idea of no rain sounds VERY appealing.

Headed down early Thursday a.m. myself. Just got to sort out some Dual Lock being a-little-to-good issue and I'm ready to rumble.

I'm more Jazzed up than Karl Malone! :yahoo:

Great.

While you three are out having fun, the rest of us will be stuck here with slappy.

:D

So, no Hirschjager in LD events? :(

to all riders and bbq attendees.

Please consume at least 5 Utah beers for me (each).

Tell Chalmers that you think he is a sissy and

make sure that they rally rock is presented to someone else.

Have fun - while warchild's weather forecast might be appropriate for SLC - remember ... chances are you wont do your rally there (unless he offers another "no-deer" route) - so you MIGHT check for Moab weather and Dinosaur weather and Escalante weather - and my guess is that a Vegas Keno ticket might be in order... so check Great Basin weather. Chances are...... it might be a tad warm.

So - drink lots of wa wa. don't let those cute little dear scare you - and don't forget to tell Steve that he is a sissy... you don't want to wear your helmet if it gets hot and flip flops are just fine for riding in the desert.

and then let me know how that worked out for you.

Yeah, well... after taking my first FJR to the Utah 1088 in 2004 (and all the ensuing drama that came out of that), I decided to go back to making the XX the primary LD rally bike. If I still participated in multi-day events, I'd likely use the FJR, but for these 24-48 hour desert sprints, the XX is the better bike for what I personally need it to do.

Though again, if it was a multi-day event, or one that was in the off-season (Oct-Apr), I'd be on the FJR.

Looking forward to seeing you all in SLC. Should be a most excellent event. Don't know a whole bunch about the rock, but looks like I need to hope I don't get it.

Look at it as a nice little jaunt through forest-rat infested Utah with some good friends.

Just dont utter the phrase "I'm not too worried about deer. I mean if one jumps out in front of you what does it matter if your doing 65 or 45 anyway" while having a beer with some fellow riders the Friday before the rally...... :black eye: :poster_oops:

Maybe not.

As I've been into the deep plastic bits lately, all manner of carcass and effluvium have fallen out.

Including one completely bare bird skull. <G>

Would it be related to the strike below? After a year that's probably pretty well aged.
