Today I spent the day riding with my buddy Jim and his 19-yr-old son and new-motorcyclist Collin. For me it was a 240-mile day.

Jim rides a BMW K1200RS, and Collin rides an older BMW (not sure the make). James and I have know each other more than 35 years, having gone to high school and college together.

The three of us met for lunch in Calistoga, then shot north on Hwy 128 till it hit Hwy 101. We continued up to Lake Sonoma, where we ran Rockpile Road. You have to keep your eyes open on Rockpile because you suddenly run out of pavement when the road becomes a dirt road.

We turned around and ran Rockpile the other way, then turned onto the famous Skaggs Springs Road. Wow! I first ran it during Highlander’s Napa run, and have been wanting to go back with the video camera. There were no squids on the roads--they were all at Infineon Raceway watching Matt and Ben duke it out in AMA Superbike. (BTW, Jim and I had rendezvous points where we waited for Collin to catch up after riding his own ride. Yes, he's taken the MSF Basic Riders Course.)

Look for the video here.

Following are a few pictures from our day.

Colin's looks like a 1982 R65 in pristine condition. I could be wrong on the year, because those R65's looked the same from year to year. Great starter bike. Light and slow acceleration.

Sounds like a great day for everyone. Especially Colin who must be stoked to have that R65. I know when I was a 16yr old I had earned enough cash to buy one and was going to and my parents said no :( I gotta love 'em for it, they didn't have MSF back then...

Great video...QUICK take it down. We don't want anyone thinking we have good riding roads in NorCal...we might get overpopulated!

This is the most amazing road. It has no cross traffic. There are no driveways along it. You'd think it was made for squids.

Collin loves that bike, yes. But I think his dad should buy him my Sportster.

Thank you. I just wanted to get the video posted, and besides, for these twisties, I didn't want to muffle the engine sound. As for bullet cams, I already spend too much time fooling with videos; I'd be afraid I wouldn't have any time left if I got all fancy.

But I'm going to choreograph another video or two with more classic rock to some of the other footage shot yesterday. I still have Hwy 128, Rockpile Rd, and coming out of Skaggs Springs.

See ya!

That road looks familiar B) Nice video JB, thanks for sharing
Thank you. When you're back in the saddle, let's go riding!
