Wonderful trip. Thank you so much for taking us along. Perhaps a pic of the axe? I am "keenly" interested in a finely made and useful blade. I have to brush up on my knowledge of Swedish knives as I know very little other than the modern brands sold here today.

Thanks again for sharing this with us.

I have a passion for hand forged axes. Here is a picture of the axe I brought back.

I have many including several from a Snow and Nealley in Maine and another from Sweden called the Black Knight.

Here is a website for a guy in Latvia that makes hand forged things. https://www.neemantools.com. I didn't make it there this time but it might be a reason to visit Latvia on a future trip.

...I have a passion for ... axes.
I have a passion for ex'es. I've collected three of 'em. HAHAHA

Seriously, Rich. Great photos and fascinating stuff. Love the old Mercurys.

And I concur with your conclusion that Norway might be the most picturesque land on that side of the ocean, ... next to Ireland.

Very happy to hear that you had a fantastic time, and learned more about your heritage.

Rich,

I saw the beginning of this thread a while back and thought it to be rather short and silly. Call me stupid(if you don't, OM will) but I didn't realize there was more to come and lost track of it until yesterday. Yesterday was when OM told me you were hurt and insulted and standing in a corner pouting all because I had not taken the time to extend a little human kindness and comment on your report.

Great stuff. Well, except for the wierd fish they serve as food over there. I really should get out more often, but every time I think about international travel, I remind myself of how little I've seen of my own country.

Thanks for sharing.

Mark

Thanks for the pic of the axe. I know that A.G. Russell sells the Gransfors Bruks in two sizes, a mini hatchett and a hunter's axe. I have never seen one in person. I am sure that buying it in its homeland would be much more satisfying and much more special than any internet order. It looks like a finely crafted tool.
