someone asked in another post about installing the vista cruise on the '06 and if it was any different. Don't know why it would be, but goes on pretty much like described in fjr tech article.

Also, installed the vee-strom knuckle covers and don't think they are as bolt on as described in fjr tech. I had to do some serious cutting on the clutch side to get them to fit and still get the bolt through the clutch. barely enough threads on the down side for the retaining nut to get purchase on. Right side went on just fine and dandy.

one thing that I don't remember being mentioned in the article was trimming down the throttle side hand grip. It WAS discussed on the Vista Cruise - but the right side attachment to the bar end weight caused the throttle to be a little sticky. Dremel tool fixed it just fine.

Chickey,

That was me asking about the vista installation. I was hoping that the 06 would be able to accept a vista without drilling and cutting the grip. Sounds like you had to do both. Is that correct?

Did you go BMW sport grips at the same time? If so, still a cut down? If you stay stock grips on '05 and earlier you do have to do come creative dremeling.

I plan on trying to put a NEP on my 06 as soon as I can find one. I really like the NEP, it is cheap and usually requires no modification. I'll let you know if it works out.

Fred,

I'll be very interested in how that works out for you. Please keep us posted. Would like to do the same if bike ever comes in.

I did NOT change grips as this time. Will probably do that when/if I put the heated grip kit underneath.

Yes - a little dremeling on both ends. Trimmed down the big end (thumb guard) quite a bit to get it to fit well under the vista cruise -

trimmed off the bar-end end, as well - just the ribbed part. Looks good.

I did file down the "foot" on the vista cruise - frankly... didn't need to, but thought it looked better and fit a tiny bit more snugly.

one thing - the cable housing is metal (for some reason I thought it would be plastic. Make SURE you drill a hole small enough to get your screw to thread, but not so small you can't get it started.

If I had checked to see if it was metal I probably would have searched more carefully for a slightly more appropriate screw (used a self tapping one, but it was bigger than it needed to be.).
