My two grandsons (6 & 7 yrs. old) promised to take me on the bumper cars at the Puyallup Fair this year Ken. Sat. is the day so I’ll miss this year. You picked another great weather day.

Have fun on your DT trip (Wynoochee Valley RD.) and Skate Creek Rd. will make you appreciate & enjoy 99 that much more.

Keep Going!

Skate Ckeek is a very very bumpy road. Most unenjoyable. Watch out for potholes. I will not ride it again.

However, Skate Creek is a nice road for bicycling on a hot day. Paradise - Stevens Canyon - Packwood - Skate Creek is an awesome training route (road cycling).

For those in the who live in Seattle Tacoma area (aka Sea-Tacopolis) lets meet in Fox Hollow Coffee shop at 7:30 in Orting. The address is 211 Washington Ave N # 1, Orting, WA. The plan is to leave at 8:00am for the ride to Windy Ridge. Will stop in Morton for gas.

The route is here.

My return route will be over Cayuse Pass.

If the weather is crummy such as raining or low freezing level etc I am out. I will put a post here on Friday as to my plans to ride or not.
I will be at the Fox Hollow coffee shop as noted above. Hope to meet a few riders for the ride to Windy Ridge.

After all the rescheduling due to late opening of the roads, the annual Windy Ridge lunch ride finally came off. It was a spectacularly beautiful day. Visibility for miles to take in the wonderful scenery. And, of course, one of the best roads on the planet for fun riding.

Ken somehow forgot to bring the BBQ lunch he has been promising for the last few years, and even forgot to bring his own lunch. Fortunately others did and were willing to share.

The entertainment for the day was provided by a local ranger who stopped to mention that our bikes looked suspiciously like a couple of blue bikes that passed her over double yellow lines... She then proceeded to regale us with horror stories about the "Weekly" bike crashes she was forced to deal with. This was sort of funny as there were a number of sport bike groups parked all around us with what anyone would consider to be much more hooligan style bikes ridden by much younger riders. The average hair color in our group was decidedly gray, even though our bikes were indeed mostly blue and somehow fit the description of the rowdies she described very well.

The day could not have been nicer. The motorcycle mountaineers who participated were fun to get together with as usual. Some, that had the time even went off in search of local huckleberry pie.

I normally approach this ride from WA 14, and the town of Carson which yields up a feast of twisties. This time, on the way out, I followed Ralph to I-5 by way of Cougar and Woodland. Not as twisty, but lovely, and along some pretty scenic lakes. Man, do I love riding in the PNW.

It was fun meeting up with those of you that made it this year. Sorry the rest of you couldn't make it, perhaps next time.

I didn't take any pics this year but others did, and I'm sure they will post them soon.

As Victor noted, the day was perfect for a ride to Windy Ridge. Temps were near 70, very little wind, and good company. My friend and I took FR 90 over to Trout Lake for huckleberry pie and or milkshake. The little cafe at the Chevron station usually will pick up some 500 lbs. of huckleberries from the local Indian tribe and will make pies, cobblers, etc. all year long. A good stop if you are in the area (Columbia Gorge). Here are some pictures taken at Windy Ridge:
