WSP and local law enforcement are running a pretty massive coordinated speed crackdown on both highways and back ways. The patrol shifts are scheduled on Fridays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and weekends from noon to 8 p.m. and they run through May 1st. They are adding overtime officers, funded from the proceeds of the tickets.

I stewed over this Friday and Saturday as I meandered almost the entire length of I-5 from Vancouver WA to Sumas WA (Canada border) and back. I mean really, speeding a major cause of death on our highways?? Come on, get real. Drunk drivers, deer, poor equipment, stoopid people doing stoooopid things are the real cause. The campaign really should have been called "Slow down or die!" if that's what they really think.

BTW, I didn't really see any more than the usual number out. I kept my speed in the 5-10 over range both days and had no close encounters.

Yep. Today ( Sunday 4/11) as well, they where out in force lots of bikes as well as a lot of rusty or new riders. I watched one almost lose it on a newly polished chromed HD when they saw a LEO hiding. Locked the rear on a yellow and just saved it. A lot of them are unmarked as well.

We drove up to Leavenworth yesterday (in the Z4) and as we left town a gent in a Ford Expedition was pacing me. Must have been guessing sports car = instant speeder. LOL Not here. I was happy to tool along at the limit enjoying the scenery...then he pull off to wait for others, and wouldn't you know it... I stay ed at the speed limit...LOL

Either way, the whole thing is a moot point for Hudson. The Husky tops out at 55 anyway, so he should be just fine... :D ...and I'll admit, the fire service roads I say yesterday on the drive had me wishing... ;)

Yep, saw a fair share today. I agree with LDRyder's asessment. Stupid drivers are the problem. IIRC, I heard a report that said last years was the lowest year for deaths on the highways since sometime in the 1950's. So if we are driving more miles, with more people, as speeds are up, that would lead me to believe the problem is the stupid drivers, not the speed.

They have to get it in before all this has everyone completely stopped (bring a book to read while you're sitting):

Notice the oil slick left from the Kawasaki, this is what happens when you look where you don't want to go.

"Notice the oil slick left from the Kawasaki, this is what happens when you look where you don't want to go."

So, the Honda hit the loose gravel? I am a little confused I guess, what caused the crash?

We were on 525 heading South turning left onto this road and the green Kawasaki went wide into the gravel and when he went down the bike shot across and made contact with the Honda's rear tire and took him down, the Honda rider fell on top of the Kawasaki and rode it down to the end of the oil slick. you can see where the Honda started to leave scrape marks on the road next to the center line and ended up in the ditch. George you correct, it's right next to Greenbank Farms. This all happened at a very slow speed 25-30mph. the Kawasaki rider has only been riding for 3 mo.

Why do I suspect you can read all about it on PNWRiders? "Dude...crashed my gixxer and I don't have insurance. Aaauuugghhh!!!"

My buddy Danny came over today with his track bike, a slightly modded 1198 Duc. Amazing when you see the track guys ride street, they are dressed appropriately and don't generally use the street as their private track. I resisted the offer to wail on Danny's Duc as it was getting late and cold and there were wolves out....

Back on topic... The Polizei are still out in full force. Played hooky this afternoon and did the back roads to Granite Falls and back and saw at least half dozen sheriff, WSP and locals way out in the sticks.

Pay attention or risk pay'n up.

On the way to Issaquah this morning to meet folks, on the 405 I saw folks pulle dover in both directions and two more cars waiting in the median to tag more folks.

Time to slow down a bit... :)

I was coming south on 97 this morning about 6 a.m. south of Omak and WSP passed me going in the opposite direction. Didn’t take long at all before the lights light up behind me and we had a good exchange. No question my speed was in excess 10 over. We had a discussion about the importance of taking it easy and how easy it is to get the speed up at that time of day with light traffic and all. Light rain at the time.

He ran the license and registration, suggested that I be careful, keep an eye out for critters, stay focused on the speed, and wished me a nice day.

A genuinely good experience.... :)

Keep Going!
