No offense, but I don't blame them for setting such a policy. Sure, you're going to clean up after, and have no intention to leave a mess, but it's pretty easy to have a slip and suddenly there's two quarts of oil on the ground. Then there's the matter of the heathen hoard (car drivers) who see you at work, and assume it's fine for them to do the same thing.
That was my thought as well. I've actually seen people drain their oil right on the asphalt. I bet something happened at this location previously and the manager said "Never again."
now that is just plain wrong......how hard is it to find a storm drain??

Mr Bigjohnsd,

Let me start by just saying.......whaat, OMFingG. What reasonable person would even think of changing their oil in a PUBLIC PLACE???? Don't care that you asked a Walmart CASHIER about store policy, ****, most of the time they can't even tell you which isle canned tomatoes are on.

The thoughtful Mr. Redzgrider hit the issue right on the litigious head.

Please Sir, next time do the right thing and don't set an example for that "TOTAL **** HEAD". Change it at home or at a "proper location"

........really bigjohnsd????

........you make me hurt, hurt inside, I've come to expect more from the FJR Clan.

Respectfully,

Daniel

You two need to work out your feelings for each other on the "emotional trauma" section of this board. Or at dinner with some wine and candlelight.

I have changed my oil several times in a parking lot while on the road without incident. It is done when far from home and the alternative is to go to a motorcycle shop, when they are open for business, and wait at their convenience to pay a lot of money for the service. No thanks.

In my experience, whether at Walmart or some other retailer that sells motor oil, including car parts stores, their policy is to not allow it because of insurance restrictions. If they grant permission then they accept liability. Don't ask, don't tell. Just make sure you clean up well and dispose of the oil and trash properly.

Greencastle IN, bought the stuff, started to prep, Asst Store Manager came out and told me to stop, said it was against "Policy".

I told him it was my " Policy" to not patronize ass holes.

We were at a conundrum.

I returned the stuff and used their restroom, leaving behind my opinion of the Manager and his "Policy"!
That manager knows an environmental terrorist when he sees one. You are lucky to get away with just a tongue lashing and not a 20W50 enima as punishment for your crimes.

Thankfully Fairbanks Walmart didn't have this policy last August. I was carrying leak proof contractor's bags just in case but they brought us out a drain pan and rags and such. The change was no different than had it been done in a garage.

Daniel, it's ok to take your meds man.
