Makes me wish we had time to stay the night. But it'll be fun regardless. If I can remember to bring it, I'll be identifiable by an obnoxious ballcap that I'd normally never wear. Bright green with a Heineken spoof that says Switzerland, Save Milk -Drink Beer (a vacation souvenir). I may have two pretty girls with me. If so, one is Hud, the other is my better half.

There will be plenty of folk around. I was just told by one of the scorers not to expect to finish scoring much before midnight. The riders have two hours after check-in to get their paperwork together and scoring may well take 30 mins per rider
Although most of them will head off for food and bed as soon as they are scored, there will be a lot of people around willing to chat for hours :)

Can't stay overnight; even us pretty girls have to go to work on Monday morning.

(with apologies to Bob Dylan)

Outside in the cold distance
A wild cat did growl
Three riders were approaching

And the wind began to howl ....

Three bad, bad, dudes and one pretty girl arriving in Kingsport around 3:30. We'll be looking for Huron52 and CanadianFJR, a buddy of mine on a Concours14, and all IBR riders on FJRs.

New member and new owner here in Johnson City. Planning to shoot over to Kingsport and meet up with you. Hope to ride the FJR if the tendonitis in my leg resolves by then. Certainly don't want be become one of those that have dropped their bike after owning it for only two months.

Uncle Hud - still thinking about this. I need to pick up my daughter at the Spartanburg bus station at 10:15 that night, so I would leave a little earlier than the rest of ya. I'll let you know for sure, but if I go I would meet you at the SC 26 exit 5 Kangaroo Express at 1:30.

I plan to be here. I'll meet up with you @ 1:30 at the I-26 exit, or somewhere on I-85 since you're coming up from Atlanta (exit 40 is where I'd get on). Heading back, 8pm is the absolute latest I can leave. 5am rise & shine on Monday morning will come awful quick.

I'm going to try out my scraping-death-fire-peg-lowering kit. Hope weather cooperates. But it's a rain or shine trip.

Just saw this thread and it really piqued my interest. Between a 6 and 7 hour ride. Problems I see:

1. 4th of July holiday weekend? Probably add an hour or more to that.

2. Weather forecast calls for t-storms.

3. Work Monday.

Possible solutions:

1. Leave home at 0200

2. Wear the appropriate gear. (OK this isn't really a deterrent, but I have to consider it given it is a holiday weekend)

3. Take Monday off (If the 4th was only on Sunday, Monday would be the holiday!)

I have time to ponder this. I have the 15 all set up now and new tires going on today, so that isn't a factor. After following this all week I might make this happen. Not looking to meet up with you guys, obviously, as I will be coming from the north.

Thanks for the negative vibes, Intech.

Well, after typing for about 10 minutes, I re-read your post and figured you were thinking out loud about your own trip -- not ours. FYI, Kingsport forecast for Sunday: 83/62, scattered thunderstorms, 50% chance of precip

........ and after all those negatives, you're considering the trip, anyway? If one of the World's Wussiest Widers (me) can do it, I'll bet you can, too. Check your PM.

Didn't mean to be negative! Just realistic!

I don't know if I can pull this off. Have to talk to Spanky when I get home.

You should have seen what I drove through on my Saddle Sore last year heading to CFO. Thunderstorms night and day. The first storms I ran into were so bad that I was the only one on the road. Even the cars pulled over. Some letting bikers get in. The overpasses were packed with pirates. I just kept rolling and beeped and waved as I passed!

Took Monday off as soon as I gave a tentative yes. I'm not staying over or even late, but had to hedge my bet. Weather will probably suck, but we'll just sweat it out in vented all weather gear. I'm going in through the mountains, so vacationers are definitely a traffic consideration. When Hud and I last talk before departure, we'll both probably reassure each other that if anything takes either of us off our time hack, we'll just meet in Kingsport. We may decide that we'll meet up roadside past a particular exit so the group doesn't have to stop, just slow a bit as it picks up riders. I'm leaving earlier than Hud so I'm less vulnerable to delays, at least to Ashvegas. We shall see. Safe riding to all. If I don't see you on the ride in, look me up at Kingsport.

Well, If I do this I will probably avoid the highway as much as possible. Take 360 out of Richmond down to S. Boston and then ride 58 out to 81 and then just slab the rest of the way. I rode 58 at night in the rain heading to EOM 2009 in Johnson City. Boy was that fun! Not! Actually some of it wasn't too bad, but there were sure some heavy downpours.

I went ahead and took Monday as well just so I wouldn't have to worry with it. I guess I need to try and dig up my rain gear....y'all talking about rain. Lol. Hud is gonna need fuel at or about our stop and like I told him it's better to get it in SC as the price jumps up quite a bit when you cross over into NC.

"AshVegas"....lol...haven't heard that one before. Lol. Hopefully you can convoy up with us Mr Bill, looks like we got quite a group now forming with a nice SC contingent!

Safe riding to all and be safe intech dropping down from the north!

The wife and I will be making the trip. We will be riding the wing. I'm sure we will see y'all there.......not sure yet if we are getting a room or not?????
