Was this a fair offer for a 2007 FJR?

The local dealer here has had a 2007 FJR sitting on the floor for a couple weeks. I've bought a bike from these guys in the past. He offered me the bike for $13,600 out the door (this is California, local sales tax is about 8%). I offfered him $12,500 out the door. He said that would be a $500 loser for him. I walked. This was just today. Who is the unreasonable one here? Is his offer a fair one?

OK, good suggestion, I'll try it. Mind if I ask (since we are fellow Californians and should be paying a similar price) how much you paid out the door for your 05?

Unfortunately, I paid *gasp* full list plus tax and set-up for my '05, then waited 7 friggin' months for the bike. PDP + Cali bikes did not make for a good negotiating stand. Some were able to get deals, but not me and I really put on the full 'prick' mode to no avail. Buyers were 10 deep behind me. Typically, the worst case scenario for floor bikes should be list price OTD. You should be able to do better than that.

$13,600 out the door is already a good price for a brand new '07 FJR1300A, considering you're in California

My friend paid $14.5K for his, and I paid $14.3K for mine (both OTD prices)

Picked up mine last Friday from an OC dealer - list price OTD including LoJack.

I did alot of leg work on local pricing in the LA/OC area - contact me if you're interested in what I found.

You're from West Virginina, so it's like comparing apples and oranges.

Our brothers from the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia get bent over pretty good when it comes to FJR prices. As well they should.

Unlike most of the rest of the country, there ain't no bargains in Kalifornia. And they can't bring in a new vehicle from out of state.

Are you most interested in the "best" deal or a decent deal on a great bike? As TWN said, most of us paid "list plus" and are glad we have the bike. Continue the quest until you can come to an understanding. Toward the end of the month he might be more amenable....or meet him half way and see what he says.

You might PM dgerharter just to gain some information, but the deal @ $13,100 OTD doesn't sound that bad for CA. Sure, you could "grind" him but at some point you might need him for warranty work or.....

I paid $13,420 OTD for my 06 A - and that was a screaming deal here in Kal-I-forn-I-A.

And I got the 6 month wait for free.

$13,600 seems really good - however, you might ask the dealer to hold it in the back for 6 months or so , just so you get the true flavor of an FJR. :blink:

But seriously - If I were in the market, $13,600 OTD would get jumped on. Ask him to throw in a free 600 mile service - then you'd be good. IMHO.

Hey... What do you do for a living? Maybe I could use your services, take some of your product off your hands, but undercut your selling price by enough that if all your clients did it, you might have to bench some personnel or cut back on stock thereby making your prospective clients head somewhere else or buy stuff online... since you don't have it.

If you *really* want to save the money, don't beat up on the guy you might need later because he's there... go see one of the NUMEROUS known discounters... D&H, Honda East of Toledo, etc.

No can do in California. It is impossible for a CA resident to buy new vehicles out of state and register them. That's partly why Cali dealers discount very little on bikes. Hell, I thought I rocked a great deal on my Wabs until I saw some of the prices folks in other part of the country are getting. :glare:

I bought mine two weeks ago in Maryland for $13,600 out the door and got the dealer to through in the 600 mile service for free. I think if I had worked it harder I could have got it a little lower but with the reduced interest rate through Yamaha I didn't push it.
