Couple of months ago was a thread about who waves and who doesn't (most HD riders don't). Here in S. TX, I have noticed the HD riders have a particular wave they all seem to do. It is the down low to the left wave not the usual arm up wave. Is this a HD/bandito thing or is this something we should all be practicing for ultimate koolness? ;) Maybe it's because if they lifted their arm up, it would present an unwelcome wobble and possible crash? :p OK, now where's my dew rag?

Well I tried waving both arms above my head while standing & jumping on my pegs.......... It does get thier attention but its hard to control the bike while doing that.

I normally wave my left hand up and out at about 45 degrees. I have noticed that some riders don't see my wave unless I hold my arm fully extended. I wear black gloves and I suspect my hand is not easily seen with the mirror there.

It took me some practice, but I finally mastered the right wave when passing a Harley.

It is essentially what this bugger is doing, but I don't expend the energy to change my facial expression:

:****:

I think it conveys everything I want to, plus doesn't take much effort on my part.

Just what I was thinking.....Smitty

low and left. Used to just sorta stick my arm straight out - until I met someone in a curve with the same style. Wife was behind me in the family truckster, said we just missed giving each other five at 60 mph.

'pends... sport bike -- low left.

on the FJR -- obnoxious wave to the wings, hd's, etc. until they wave back!! :D :D (learned that from another forum member)

Left palm forward, sometimes down, just outboard of the grip if I wave at all. Call me old fashioned but I'm usually more interested in maneuvering and watching the road than waving.

The low arm slide is one half of what the umpire does on the ballfield for "safe". It's the sign for "be safe" or "ride safe".

You're supposed to just sort of "point" at the other bike's front wheel. That's all ther is to it. If any of ya'll were really "cool" you'd know that.

If I'm in a four wheeled vehicle, I come to a stop and give the peace sign. Watch them slow down and look at me weird like. If I am on my scoot....I stand on the pegs and point right at them....they look at me as if they are in trouble or something....it's funny none-the-less.

A fairly low, left-handed [obviously] horizontal peace sign seems to be the wave-du-jour.

I just got back from an 8 day ride to CO and NM. Lotsa sickles on the 2-laners, so a lot of waving on my part.

Most of the HD types wave even though yer clearly on a riceburner, some even wave first.

Good vibes all around. :D

Going out to WFO, the further West we got, the more we got either an actual 'hand wave' or full arm extension at 9 o'clock & palm open, fingers extended. We usually waved first, got a response rate of 70-90 percent depending on the road & traffic conditions. Don't blame anyone for not waving in traffic, attention is usually elsewhere...

Back East here, most of the wave I get from Harley boys is arm extended, to between 7:30 & 8:00, usually index finger pointing, all other fingers touching the palm. I guess it's a wave without actually being a wave, you know, too cool to actually wave & all that. If they have a pillion on back, they seem to delegate that job to the woman, with indifferent results. I find that most riders will respond if you signal early, not as they're whizzing past. I've adopted the Harley wave back here, but adapt as necessary when traveling.

You kids do know that waving is gay, right? That's why I stand on my pegs and point like I am making fun of them. Or, stop in a car and let them know that they are, indubiously.....in trouble of some sort.

Guess I'll be practicin the peg standing-pointing-making fun thing.

I wave low on the left as well; I don't want someone mistaking my wave for the low-tech "right turn" signal.
So they mistake it for the low-tech 'stop' signal instead? :bye2:

when I see someone standing on the pegs I assume they've farted in their leathers....

Haven't seen anyone else mention this, but at more than crawling speeds, if I try to give a "high" hand wave, my hand catches the airstream and gets pushed back... making it kind of awkward. I generally tend to give a low wave because it doesn't tend to yank my arm off.
