I wanted to make a BLT. Do you have any tomartoes in Boston?

OK, I think I know what you're referring to now. But it's pronounced "to-mah-toes" Just like bahth (a tub full of watah).

But that little peculiarity is only used by the true blue bloods, the Boston Brahmins. These are the upper crust that claim they descended from the Pilgrims. Most Bostonians just pronounce those words as "To-may-tahs" and bath. Many outsidahs don't realize that there are actually sub-dialects that identify which neighbahood you grew up in.

nah, but I hayve sum chowda...
Damn straight! We've got some wicked good chowda around heeyah.

And just fuh the reck-ed, there ain't no friggen tomaytahs in chowda!!

Good post - lotsa truth and good memories. Forgot about wicked good (heavy emphasis on the 'wick' syllable), but it was the best compliment you could give when I was growin' up. Anybody still play street hockey anymore with a heavy plastic ball and plastic hockey stick blades warmed and shaped to look like Espy or Pie McKenzie's sticks? Good memories...

On topic: Mike, I couldn't be happier for you. You deserve some good news (sorry about the 40% difference in the estimate versus price of the engine swap).

I thought of you Sunday morning as I sat with my kids, my wife, my wife's daughter, her husband and their one-year old. We were in Oakland, CA at a small bistro across from the fruitvale BART station enjoying beignets smothered in powdered sugar. We went through two dozen as fast as they could make them. Not as good as in Loosiana, but tasty. I thought of you. Good luck man.
