Much as I hate to say it, Bogus, "Welcome to the club!" Fortunately for most of us, the damage was only to our pride. . . Hope the collarbone heals quickly.

Sorry to hear about your tip over. Now you are an official member of the club. However you have to give up your membership in the "I have never been down" club. No change in benefits except for you have a little more knowledge! You will back on her before you know it. I suggest you buy her fresh oil change to say you are sorry for the mistreatment.

I dropped a Kawasaki Vulcan off a curb just like that once. I was lucky and didn't get hurt, and it was such a POS that it didn't hurt anything. However, if you're gonna do something, I say, do it right. You obviously went for the gold on your first drop. That kind of sucks, but now, it's out of the way.

She is back in the stable as good as new!! Cost $500 deductible for the lesson, but a lesson well learned. Never stop thinking ahead about the consequences of what you are about to do. Here is the bill plus taxes, minus deductible.

They replaced both T-Rex sliders since they slightly redesigned them, both Canyon Cage bag guards, the right side bag lid, the right side fairing and the right side mirror and all the support parts under the fairing for the mirror. Only about 10 minutes from home so I drove it home myself since my collarbone is doing pretty good. Think I will leave it in the garage until I am released from the doc though

Don't want to screw up my short term disability insurance payments! I am still convinced that if I ever have a 0 mph slow mo tip over in a parking lot, the slider/bag protector combo will save the plastic.

Bummer man, one look at the bike off the curb and I knew it would take superman to get it back on the sidewalk. Hide your credit card, with time at home to shop the net you may end up over farkling. Hope you heal as fast as an R1!

Sorry to hear, but glad to hear that you are healing.

That photo of the bike laying on its side makes the bike look so sad and helpless.

You're in good company... Tore my right Achilles a couple of years ago when I haphazardly put the kickstand down and it folded back up. Kept the bike from going down, but man did it hurt - couldn't ride for 6 months either. Hope you (and the bike) recover soon and enjoy the rest!

I had that happen too, with my '07 FZ1 at a car/bike show. I caught it, and my family was watching and were amazed at my apparent super-human strength. Fortunately I wasn't injured..

Sorry about the drop. Unfortunately mine has been down twice but has only left a little rash on the side cases. I can live with that.

Occasionally my 08 will stumble and/or die when I first crack the throttle. Usually when its cold or been sitting for hours. I was pulling out of the drive way at my Yamaha dealer after taking a demo ride on an R1. The curb is actually quite tall there. I was feeling good after my demo and waved at the bro's with the two finger salute generating as much cool vibe as I could muster just before pulling out. There is that moment you know, when the front wheel is in the street and the rear wheel is still up at curb height and yes I cracked the throttle and she picked that very moment to die. I just needed a little dab of the foot to keep it upright but got nothing but air. Bang... Ugh!

Second time was less embarrassing but I felt like more of an *****. A little late leaving work (date night with the Mrs.) I jumped on the bike and proceeded to take off for home. In my haste I forgot to remove the friggin NEON ORANGE disk lock from my front disk. Those things work as advertised and I can attest that you can't ride very far with one on. Bang Ugh!!

Very sorry to read about the OP unfortunate confluence of bad things all at once. That Murphy guy is one bad, bad dude.

My '04 saw the ground a few times, all at virtually 0 mph. The most unique but ignominious drop was when the front wheel tucked at almost a dead stop because it skidded in very slick buffalo ****. Of course there was a FJR rider there to witness the event. How many can say they went down due to buffalo ****? It wasn't to bad for me, but poor pillion went sliding off across the parking lot, well lubricated by the aforementioned American Bison ****. On the other hand, the bison meat from this place is real good if cooked properly. The difference between a very good steak and iron durable shoe leather is a few degrees and a few seconds too much on the grill.

I saw your thread back in June, but it didn't have the impact on me that it did with this revival, since I dropped my own nice red bike on the way to NAFO, and broke the damn same mirror support (listed as the "stay" in your invoice, at $271) that you did. I posted about it, and heard back from a ridiculous number of Gen III owners who dropped their bikes, and it seems like every damn one of them broke that stay. 5.7 hours of labor, and I'm guessing most of that was in the taking apart and putting together to get at that fool part--see it here.

Sorry about the collarbone--really--but I'm freaking pissed at the rash of broken mirror mounting stays on Gen III's from simple drops. I think Yamaha owes a lot of us a full recall to replace this POS part with something that doesn't automatically break.

Drop a 600lb bike...somethins gonna break.
There's very little difference between the weight of the Gen 3 and the Gen 2. My Gen 2 bikes each suffered more than one drop without breaking that stay, though a little bent . My Gen 3 broke its stay on the lightest of stationary tips.
IMHO that's a retrograde design, and a money-maker for Yamaha and its dealers.

Yep, I bought my Gen 1 with a bent upward right mirror mount. The stay was a steel welded assembly so that I was able to bend the mirror mount back into place and all was well. Like Mac says, it appears to be a retrograde aka money maker on the Gen III;s for mama.

Tuff way to learn about edge traps. Glad you are back in commission. Oh yea, stop cleaning the parking lot and concentrate on the ride. Let someone else pick up the rocks.

I would have to say your work schedule of 12hr shifts contributed to this misfortune.

Hope you heal well and back to 100%.
