Hello, had a little spill today...low sided, bike went down on the right side. Damage seem to be minor, upper and lower fairings scratched, saddle bad cover scratched. I've been sourcing parts and had a question about the bags...can the outer painted cover be replaced, or does the entire bag have to be replaced? Other then the scratched paint, broken reflector, etc the bag in fine. I see the outer painted shell has its own part number, but looking at the bag I don't see how it comes apart. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ping Garauld on this forum. He does excellent work re-painting the bag lids. You have to separate the lid from the bag, but he can tell you how to do that. New reflectors and bump strips are available individually, if stupid expensive.

Forum member Garauld can repaint the lid. Contact him by PM for info. Basically you'll drill the rivets to remove the lids and he'll send new rivets with the painted lid when it comes back.

The lid alone is not available as a part, just the entire bag, and it's muy muchos $$$$$$$

Someone will probably be along shortly to "remind" you of the non-necessity of posting the identical question in multiple sections. It doesn't reach more people doing that, and it creates a bit of clutter.

Or you could use this unfortunate incident as an opportunity to put your FJR on a "diet" and slim down it's butt by converting the bags to City Cases. I love mine, and you can get them finished in color too if that's what you like.

Yup! Many of us use the "View New Posts" option.

Redundancy is a huge no-no according to forum rules. :nono:

You separate the lid from the bag by drilling out the rivets on the hinges. Just drill deep enough for the head of the rivet to pop off.

As said above, contact Garauld and see if he can fix you up with a repaint. He may even have a painted lid ready to go for an exchange.

Much appreciated! I have send Garauld a PM. Hopefully he can help. Does he repair fairings too? Upper is only slightly scratched...lower is cracked.
