Oh c'mom Mark I've ridden with you.

Ya know you really want it.
With a little luck, I'll have pics of me riding one of these on Monday. My buddy has one and I've promised to stop in and see him. Hey, he let me ride his Turbo CBR (I think he's trying to kill me!).

I think I will look at a DRZ400 when I relocate southward in a couple...based on what people keep saying....

So maybe in my part of the garage...

An FJR, a DRZ400, and an FZ6. :)
We have similar taste and wants. My third bike would be somethinng on the sportier side. I used to think I wanted a hardcore sport bike like an R1, but I just can't sit on something like that for very long. I think FZ1 would satisfy my craving.

But, first things first. And, since it takes me a long time and a lot of effort to pry open my wallet, it will be a while before I actually buy something unless I see a smoking good deal. ;)

Greg check out the thread on the 500EXC on ADV rider. oil change every 10hours. 91octane, hard to find in some forest villages.

when I see you at nerds I will tell you my drz400 story

You know I'm not really a sporty rider...so just a lighter bike in the mountains for a day trip , like an FZ-6,is what I'd be looking for. I have no big desire for dirt...but I keep ending up on gravel somehow...so a light, cheap dirt bike might be something I like...if I can find someone to show me to all the good easy trails in SC and NC. maybe dirt riding would grow on me...I have no idea if it would.

Thanks for pointing me to the ADV thread. I'm not too concerned about finding fuel in the forest villages. I just want to ride some trails in the mountains around here, maybe ride with some of the ATV crowd that my kids hang around with.

I am looking forward to hearing about your DRZ400 adventure. Overall, is your impression of the DRZ positive or negative?

Well, you are faster than I am most of the time, but yes, I know what you mean.

I am looking for a street legal trail bike so I can poke around the woods near my house. There are a lot of logging roads, but they are very steep and some are tight and with places where water has worn ditches across them. Street legal is important because I know I won't use it much if I have to put it in the truck every time I want to go for a ride.

And the light sporty bike would be to help sharpen my street skills. Also, I want to ride one before I get too old and start shopping for a big cushy Wingabago. ;)

Why not a Yamaha WR450?? They're sweet? Street legal, light (that's relative of course) and will handle just about anything you throw at them. They can be found for decent prices used. That's gonna be my next bike.

Yes, I like the WR450 very much and it would satisfy everything that I want, except I didn't think it was street legal. I will have to look into whether or not I can get a license plate for it in NY.

I did a little research and found that the WR450 is not street legal in NY even with a light and horn kit. It may be OK to register one if it is bought from another state and it was street legal in that state so that the title would transfer to NY as a street bike. I guess it's an option, but the DRZ is looking better and better.

You should be safe on it.

Here's a couple of pics of my DRZ to give you a feel for what can be done with these versatile little beasts! My boys and I own 3 of them and they're bulletproof and a hoot to ride dirt, track or street!

Very nice. I am not interested in the SM or track trim, but it the DS picture looks good. From your ride report it looks like the DRZ would suit my needs. Thanks.

I'll give ya the turn signals,an rack.. But The pics don't clearly define the lack of light, plate, nor mirrors.

:finger:

Fek I guess the plate isn't there.. or is it just 1/4 size..

Plus I'm almost as old as greg an Wheaties. I miss **** like that

plate is missing Barry but also all the lights and mirrors. I know you can't see this one ... The drain plug is also wired so it won't come out.

Very nice set up!

Sorry Bust, but the first thing I noticed was the missing headlight. You need to spend more time with your motorcycle. :p

Your right. I have an '03 and it still runs perfect. I got it back when they weren't readily availble and had to go to Nebraska at full retail. I was able to make it barely street legal here in colorado. I've heard that is a lot harder to do hear now as well. All the good easy things seem to eventually end with new restrictions coming in to play.

Me eyes must be failing as I fail to see the difference between SM an track trim .....
Ifn' the lights, turn signals, plate, rack and mirrors had wool around them, I'll be you would've noticed! :p
Possibly not John, all of the blood from his brain would then have rushed to his tiny Thimble Dick and Bust would have passed out!
