Is the event solely for FJR owners, as I have a friend who may be interested in the ride out but rides a VFR?

There were a bunch of non-FJR's at WFO-4, mostly ex-FJR riders on different bikes or the companions of FJR riders.

No Harley's though. The hotel doesn't want oiled carpet in the exhibit hall. Seriously, it is nice to be able to carry on a conversation without some knucklehead(bike and owner) twisting away on the volume control because his V-Twin won't idle.

:bleh:

Unfortunately it's not just HD owners.. we were at the top of Mt. Baker with a bunch of other FJR's on a WFO4 run , enjoying the peace , serenity and majesty of the whole scope of things....when some moron wanted to show of his new holeshots or some brand and started reving the snot out of his ( FJR ) bike, and I mean hitting some ungodly RPM's.. It was pretty embarassing, all we could say was " he's not with us " to the dirty looks we got from some folks. Some people just don't have a clue!!

I 'm think'in that that was the guy that had the kit where you drill out the baffel of the stock pipe and then replace it with a larger one. Another guy wanted to hear how loud they were. they sounded similar to the other aftermarket pipes. And yes I think he over did the reving just a bit.

I'd be hard-pressed to remember how many times someone requested that I start my bike and give it a few revs so they could hear the Staintunes........I enjoyed that little routine at WFO4.

At WFO--in the parking lot--is one thing. At the parking lot/marshalling area for hikers and tourists and those citizens enjoying the view, that's another. I too got a few interesting and quizzical looks from people walking by to get to the overlook area (FYI, I have Holeshots but didn't participate in the festivities).

Not much different than the V-twin cruiser types who regale the innocent with their straight pipes. Offense to the non-motorcycling, voting public is offense to the voting public. Many can and do write their congressmen and senators. In the least, they lump us all together as an unruly uncaring group.

IIRC, it wasn't the "kit" like FJR_eh has, but another set of aftermarkets slip-ons.

Back to the original question....I think the guide lines have always been "someone who is interested in the FJR or is with someone who is". Way back when, there was a time when the participation was more limited and FJR centered. This is, afterall, an FJR event, not a "Sport-touring" even, so everything will be geared toward the FJR. But I don't think anyone would be overly offended that your friend would ride to the event with you and enjoy the festivities. As stated above, there were a few "other brand" motorcycles at Skagit Valley.

Back to the original question....
Here is the language we'll be using in the FJR National Meet web site when it's published next month:

The event is open to FJR1300 owners/pillions, prespective new owners, and those who simply admire the marquee.

The last part of the sentence is a catch-all that will pretty much cover your buddy. If your Viffer friend pays the registration fees and comes to the event, he'll be welcomed.
