I'm a Sporstster rider. Wanted a Buell 1125. Bought an FJR in defiance of the Harley dealer's arrogance. I had read about the FJR so I was not completely unknown to the bike. But now I find that the bike is faster than I expected.

The neighbor came over tonight and saw the FJR for the first time. He has an F1. Jokingly I said "So lets go riding this weekend and trade bikes for a while." He jumps at the chance! I'm surprised. Then he says that he can't wait to ride an FJR. Then he tells me that he thinks the FJR is faster. I don't understand. Is he pulling my leg?

So what is the FJR? I easily get 120 getting on the freeway and love it. So what is the FJR?

Hey Doug,

Just take it easy on the fjr, 'k? Don't want to hear about another forum member going down. Perhaps your other bike and life experiences will allocate good will on the FJR. But if not, then please heed the warning 'The FJR is not inherently a dangerous ride. But to an even greater extent than the sea, it is unrelentingly unforgiving of mistakes'. *******ized quote from air planes, but you get the idea. Please take care, eh?

The FJR is the quintessential Sport Touring bike. It has LOTS of power, handles pretty damn well, and is great for just about any kind of street riding you can think of. It is still just a machine, and will only do what you tell it to. Take it easy for awhile. Learn it's characteristics. Welcome to the world of WOW performance!

I have had a bad enough week, so I will take pity and not start the dog pile.

The FJR is a Super-Sport Tourer; it ain't no Ultraglide. Burn that road up, Doug. It's took you this long to get off Harleys - don't waste any more time. There's a lot of it to make up.

In 'Pointless Recurring Threads', you'll find one about top speed. Go for the record. Just be sure you live to talk brag about it.

Thanks for the replies. Didn't expect so many so quick.

For the record I only get my g-force kicks on this very long (3/8 mile) on ramp at about 5:30 in the morning when the freeway is deserted. At all other times I really am relatively sedate because I don't have the road racing desire and I am flat scared of cages.

My fourth day with the FJR a young lady busy talking to her passenger pulled into my lane on the freeway. Fortunately the shoulder was clear and I just moved over. Experiences like this do keep me from weaving in traffic and riding crazy.

Sorry about the wrong impression in the original post. I really am just a boring old man.

Doug

Yup, if you are going to see where she tops out, you are going to need more than 3/8 of a mile. 141 according to the GPS this last Sunday morning, and that was more than enough.

Get a loud horn. Mine has air horns and they ROCK!!

Welcome to the fold.

Sort of like comparing a stone axe and a scalpel.. But both will hurt you...

The FJR is a Sport bike with a comfortable sitting position and hard bags..

The best bike I've ever owned.. :yahoo: :clapping:

Its 1300 ccs of performance.

I just call mine "the beast".

Works for me.

If you end up getting a Zumo for your FJR, like I did, let me give you a reminder for those that have kids...remember to reset your "Top Speed". I had taken my Zumo off to put in the truck and it happened to be sitting on our dining room table. My son picked it up and was playing with it during dinner and hit the top speed screen and said "dad, you went a 154mph on your bike?" Oh did I get a look from my wife and told her "no way, you think these bikes can actully go that fast" ;)

The FJR is not faster than his R1 (unless his R1 is pretty ragged out) but it does have a ton of low end and mid range power. I suspect that your buddy will be impressed by the low end torque of your FJR. His R1 needs a few more RPMs before it really comes into its own.

Just my .02.

Enjoy and respect your FJR.

welcome to the world of the allmost do all bike...

Its not really that great at the offf road stuff.

Lesson #2 is farkeling.
