What does Yamaha include in their MSRP?
They do specifically include delivery and setup in the MSRP. The dealer's trying to play games.
Iggy,

I will beg to differ with you on that point. All of Yamaha's advertising when a suggested retail price is shown clearly has a note at the bottom that states "the retail price does not include shipping and setup charges". As the freight charges continue on an ever increasing upward trend, Yamaha would have to change the MSRP every time the freight changes.

Regards,
Gotta link? While I can be persuaded it's not official policy to include freight and setup.....I'm not going to believe there's something that FROM YAMAHA that says price specifically expcludes shipping and setup.

Again, if a dealer tried to charge me more than MSRP...I'd walk and find another place.

Does anyone have linkage that can prove their points? If not, then the published information stands and the rest is unsubstantiated conjecture:

MSRP* $13,899

*Price and specification subject to change without notice.
Done. Next?

When you say "if a dealer tried to charge me more than MSRP...I'd walk and find another place" we are in complete agreement, but if your dealer is adding on fees above MSRP he is doing exactly that. It's all about negotiating the best out the door price including everything. I paid 11,999 plus 6% sales tax for my 2007 and that was fair for both of us since he sold it and I bought it. I know that we all want to work out the best price and so does the dealer. Some dealers ask for profit honestly and some add fees to make it more agreeable to us when we are buying.

My car dealer tried to stick me with a $60 fee for something or other when I went to sign his contract. His 'jutification' was that the number was preprinted on the contract. One quick stroke of my pen and the preprinted number was now crossed out. I then managed to get him to 'toss in' the floor mats that should have come with the car (printed on the information sheet) and we even removed the destination charge before I walked out.

Purchasing a major capital item is a highly emotional event. But it works both ways. As hot as YOU may be to buy the item, the salesman is just as excited to make the sale and get closer to his sales target.

Sure, dealers with try to add as much on to your deal as they can. If you, as a consumer are willing to pay it then it just highlights the brightly colored tatoo on your forehead that spells 'SUCKER'.

As a dealer, it is in his best interest to try to get you to sign for as much credit or write as large a check as possible If he can convince you to pay for setup and delivery separately from the machine, to pay for 'document Fees' or if he removes the sidecase bags and tells you they are not included - it is all part of the dance.

The solution is to do your research by comparing what others have managed to get (which is why OTD pricing is a waste, since it is regional) and to be prepared to walk away from the deal if necessary to prevent getting ripped off.

you won't find it. it's not in MSRP. that's just a suggested retail price. it's in the dealer cost for the product from yamaha. you want proof? other than the word of a dealership we trust (D&H) and that of people we trust personally? earn the trust of an honest dealer and then ask him/her. beyond that, tossing out an attitude like this is very unholiday like. :****:

MSRP is just the sugjested price. You are only paying that for the bike. Now would you like that bike put together? If not you can do it but that would void the warrenty. Would you like a load for that bike? Then pay us to do the paper work. Would you like us to have that is stock? If not wait for it. Oh ya would you like to be able to even buy this bike? I mean they did buy the Franchise, the building and have ppl there to do all this work.

Do I feel that stuff cost too much? Hell ya but they had it and I wanted it so I bought it.

All I know is that most dealers, at least initially when dickering price, add on to the MSRP.
I was shopping around for my 07' FJR this OCT, I called 15+ dealers from AZ to NM to TX

to OK to FL to OH and asked them what the price of their FJR would be. They'd offer a price.

When I'd ask about additional charges and they ALL added destination fees of $250 to $500

and set up fees that varied widely. In the end the final price, before TTL, was usually $1000

to $1500 over the original price given.

I ended up playing hardsell with my local dealer and got it with NO added fees, and well below MSRP.
seems like a lot of work. one phone call to D&H was all it took for me! :good: :yahoo:

putting the bike together would not void the warr... If you had put it together as to spec it would be no different than the farkles and mods. To void the warr u would have to be showen to have caused the failure. From some of the bikes I have worked on ok wish I had put some of them together. Looking at D&H for next bike.... Have not heard of any issues with them.

I've been friends with my dealer since before I had my 125cc license. He sells for MSRP on in stock bikes and includes F&S in that price. Now if he has to get you a certain , model, color etc. that's not in stock than there is an up charge .

One of my riding bud's sells at another stealership and he says they add that on to MSRP and that his commission on each sale increases with the amount of F&S tacked on. They usually aim for 7% of MSRP but if your're not haggling it can be more. So it's just a buyer beware thing, they get a % of each bike sold back, depending on volume, at the end of the year from the manufacturer so it's really something that could be haggled out if you buy at the right time of year.

I don't concern myself with the line item charges, only the bottom line. I decide what model I want, including accesories and then I comparison shop at the dealers in the area. I always ask for the out-the-door price. If two dealers are close in price I'll consider reputation, service and convenience before selecting one.

I was at the local HD/Buell dealer on Friday pricing a new 1125R and they tack on $950 in F&S over MSRP on all models accept the Sportster. Can you say extra profit? He didn't have an 1125 available so he tried to sell me a 2007 Heritage Softail he had on the floor -- I mean afterall it's damn near the same as a Buell 1125R. He wanted the same $950 for F&S! I'll have to sleep on a deal that sweet.

Fastest and most firm way this will go down for me...

I intend to do no financing when I purchase. If I think the sticker price on the dealer's bike is fair enough for "out the door" then I will be walking back in later with some form of cash or certified check for that amount. I have to wait long for this bike. A little more to find a "reed in the wind" dealer isn't such a big deal to me.

You never purchase a vehicle without getting a little screwed. Knowing this, I merely intend to soften the blow. I expect the outcome will be fair to both of us since I don't think it is right that I screw the dealer either.

Me to the salesman: "Good morning. There's the bike I want. Here's the money. That's my out the door price and I'm not going to haggle."

Well now, you fail reading comprehension. The question was in regard to MSRP, not invoice. Besides, I would wager that it is prolly listed as a separate line item on the invoice (for sales tax reasons), which would make perfect sense. Again, someone show me where it is written where freight and set-up is included in MSRP.

Coal for you, bounce.

I'm sure I'll be sorry for this, but here goes....Look up any auto manufacturer's website and do a search for a vehicle and then look at the "window sticker". There is MSRP and then at the bottom is the "Destination Charge" which is added at the very end.

I know I'll be flamed, but this is the facts and since motorcycles don't have "window stickers" the destination charges are generally added at the end. However, most are never sold for MSRP plus freight so the point is moot!

Merry Christmas,

Tony

Oh Rats...I forgot AL. <_< I did talk with D&H and they were were GREAT to talk with!

They are the most matter-of-fact about OTD price...well below MSRP...no added fees...and

they beat all other dealers without the hassel of haggling.

I was simply calling around to get numbers to take to my local dealer so I'd be informed and have a little

leverage. It worked...they came down to D&H's price (lowest I found) and I didn't have to travel.

Precisely. Yamaha and Honda Corps. reimburse their dealerships for each and every set-up they do, based on a book rate of hours. I.E., the book rate set up for an FJR may be 2 hours @ that shop's rates. Some dealers will try to pass this cost on to the consumer because they can try to do this, legally, but also because these reimbursement credits from the Corp. may take a while to be processed. If a dealership wants to TRY and fold $1400 worth of F&S into the MSRP there's nothing that says it's an illegal action to do so. (Not quite sure where/what the lawsuit would be founded on.)

The stealerships are going to do a double tap on the uninformed consumer if you let them. ( These are the dealerships who try to fold F&S in to the MSRP.) The great dealerships cut right to the chase of the MSRP, right from the get-go, as they know you are more likely to be a repeat bike purchaser, purchase the accessories for the bike right off the bat, AND bring those machines back for service to them. You'll probably return there when buying your SO a new Yamaha t-shirt too. And when looking for that long lost bottle of Yamalube 20W-40!

Besides that being cars and not motorcycles, those window stickers are not from the factory, but whatever the local dealer prints up.

...still haven't seen any specific confirmation FROM YAMAHA that freight and setup are not included in MSRP.

.....and the other thing is that state and local taxes are another critter altogether. If I can't get a bike for MSRP or less...exclusive of local or state sales tax......no freight and setup....I'm walking...or flying to D&H.

Iggy, lay off the eggnog, wouldja?! Those car window stickers are not applied at the dealer. Next time you see a car carrier roll by, look at the windows of the cars it carries. Man, I thought you were the observant type... ;) The Monroney is applied at the point of manufacture and in some cases, the distribution center. Secondary stickers are often dealer-applied for dealer installed accessories and that nasty 'added dealer mark-up', but never does a new car dealer make-up their own Monroney. The Monroney is required by Federal law and as such, any dicking around with it on the local dealer level can bring stiff fines. In fact, it can only be removed legally by the purchaser of the new vehicle.

Used car stickers is a whole different story...

And, I still haven't see any specific confirmation FROM YAMAHA that freight and setup are included in MSRP. The only information available specifically says nothing about F&S, therefore, one can only conclude that it is NOT included.

I win. Merry Christmas!

Funny, I can only conclude that it IS included.

So, the cold war continues. ;)

As for stickers on new cars I've seen them on new cars in my state that look similar, but are not the factory stickers, carefully don't claim to be, and doing the Internet search find different amounts....therefore I tell the dealer how much I'll pay and if they balk I find one that will play.

You cannot conclude that from information that is not there. Since the information you seek is not there, you can only conclude that it is not included. Is it raining again up there? Cabin fever is fucking up your power to reason logically. Have another eggnog and figger this one out. When the sun finally shines, you'll see that I'm right.

Really? You've seen altered stickers? I'd be dialing 1-800-FED-LAWS tout de suite, if I ever saw one...

I was wrong. You're right. So sorry.

I haven't seen the "TWN butt plug" fee either so I can't conclude it's included. In fact, I have to assume it's not included and that whenever we buy another FJR we'll all be charged an extra $9.95...or $9995....or whatever and have to pay it.

Really? You've seen altered stickers? I'd be dialing 1-800-FED-LAWS tout de suite, if I ever saw one...
No, I've seen substitute stickers...they were not factory stickers. I've been in occasions where the factory stickers are nowhere to be found even when I asked and the dealer wouldn't provide any saying their stickers are the ones they use.

...maybe it's a state-by-state thing?

This latter point I'm not trying to be a dick either. ;)

However, the phone number you provided...is real...it's to some law office that's closed. ;)
